 Fresh mushrooms in the dehydrator ( urgent)

I need to dry some mushys real quick because I am about to leave town for a while. Can you place freshly picked mushrooms in a dehydrator or is an air drying period necessary so as not to cook the little guys and effect potency.

theyll be fine in the dehydrator.
I've read temperatures of 160+F are needed to noticeably affect potency

yeah but what about the fact that there is so much moisture in there. Wont that act as a heat conductor further breaking down the actives.

Normal heat won't affect potency.
People think so for some reason but there is no evidence anywhere to say so.

I understand that heat won't affect potency when allowed to air dry for 24 hours but I figured the moisture in fresh ones would cook 'em. They are going in right now. Thanks guys.

I harvest fresh & put them straight into a Nesco dehydrator.
(Nesco has a heat setting dial & fan)
With the heat setting anywhere from 110 to 130F
Never had any issues. But, was never in any rush to get them done.
Dehydrating takes a little time.
Don't try to rush it, with higher heat over 150F

Thanks myco.alchemist. I understand that it takes a while to dry mushrooms in a dehydrator, I have done it several times but I always allowed the mushrooms to air dry for 24 hours prior until they felt dry on the exterior. Anyway, I am not leaving town until tomorrow but I just wanted to get them in there as fast as possible so they are dry before I leave. Also my dehydrator does not a have a temperature adjustment so I just prop up the lid on some cans and that brings the temp down to around 120 to 130.

rotate your trays often for quick results. i rotate mine 2-3 times a day and it takes less than 24 hours to finish.

And there are people who swear up and down that using hot dehydrators has no noticeable effect on potency (they concede there may be a slight loss which is subjectively negligible).
You were worried about getting them dry as fast as possible so Doc told you how to do that. You shouldn't give people a hard time for trying to help, we remember that sort of thing.

Doc is always condescending, it is his way 
But hes right, often is too. I run my dehydrator closed up..it can get up to 160 or more. But that is air temp. Water makes it SLOWER to heat up. Food filled with water takes time to heat up. As water cooks out food heats up and burns quickly. The cells of the mushrooms arent as hot as the air of your dehydrator.
I have NEVER seen anyone suggest you fan dry shrooms before dehydrating them. That would be counterproductive.

With your modification, I would think you are GOOD TO GO.
Just get them in it & run it until you are about out the door.
Overnight should get the job done.
Sounds like you have a RONCO.
One with a temp dial & fan is far better IMHO.
Ronco's are about like mini-ovens.
