Bowl - I have no inexpensive home made alternative order one online (and a rubber seal for the stem to attach to!)
Stem - Copper/Brass/Steel pipe of preferred length
Base - Giant Sized Pickle Jar! (available at walmart)
Base contents - Cleaned gravel or Marbles (anything to prevent the stem from wobbling, this model doesn't include a little ash catcher!)
The Hose - I have no inexpensive home made alternative order one online, again, sorry!
Explanation! The usual rubber stopper that fits to the bottom of ceramic bowls creates a seal to the stem. Next, we need holes in the jar lid for our hose and stem. I used a very wide drill bit. This way is not optimal, the holes were close enough to make seals but not smooth. For the stem there is no need for a rubber stopper. A piece of rag cloth fitted between the stem and it's designated hole will keep it air tight enough. The hose portion was very similar, although I simply forced my old hookah attachment through the hole and it sits especially tight. As for the smell of pickles, the lid retains it's odor for longer than you might think so target that since the glass is relatively easy to clean.
that looks cool. If you ever decide to make one again, at hardware stores they sell tubing that you could use for the hose. Just drill a hole in the lid to fit it and seal it with some caulking material
look for Israel civil youth gasmask m14 or something
its the slandered gasmask you get from headshops online there like 20$ if you look at military surplus
then get 4 hoses and find a chamber to connect it just such randomly dont rush your project and only get pieces that fit perfectly theres nothing worth then duct tape over everything unless its a duct tape wallet

To DeeKay:
It looks pretty good man, but the stem is WAY too long. Try cut off about a foot, so the bowl is closer to the top of the jar. And when you cut it, make sure to cut the tube at a 45 degree angle: makes the bubbles come up easier.
Also, maybe a wider jar might help with stability problems (looks unstable). And a trippy paint job on the outside would look nice on the plain glass jar.
I once made a hookah out of a large plastic Arizona bottle: had the perfect shape for it: skinny bottle neck with a large base that gradually curved to the smaller bottle neck. But, it was light, so it would fall over sometimes. And it was plastic (euuu).
Another good bowl, that looks nice too, is a chrome water supply tube for old toilets. Its at Home Depot and stuff. Its all shinny chrome (copper coated with chrome), and has a perfect bowl. The bowl is a little small, but it works, and its nicier looking than a copper-colored one. Up to you.
Good job on your semi-homemade creation. Bubble up the Hookah. ~ L C ~
