Some Lions Mane...

Sub:
1 Bag:
4 cups sawdust fuel pellets (8 cups after they've expanded) 4 cups hydrated misc woodchips 1 cup WBS flour 1/2 cup granulated gypsum 5'ish cups of water
B/E:
First Flush: 1789 Grams (1.789Kg/3.93lbs) Second Flush: 891 grams (1.92 lbs) Total sub: 40lbs B/E: So Far, 14.6% Approx 1 week between flushes.
Total Harvest to Date: 5.85lbs/2.653kg
Environment:
Never less then 90% RH 14 Hour Light 6500K Floro 14-18C Average

This one is from the Top Left block in the greenhouse picture.
Garlic, Butter and chopped Lions Mane.
Fresh garden picked salad.
With chicken breast, garlic and butter.

Full Harvest with a few cool Macro Shots:
This top head here was 289 grams, it was a result of the flap being cut at the top of the block (much like the 269 gram block) but at the sacrifice of losing a chunk of the sub. We shalt see if this will contaminate because of it. The inner flesh is left to be desired compared to the others, its mainly thickly banded braided of teeth, no thick marshmallowy filling like the others.

Excellent Meph. i just got a plate of this from Tripsis the other day.
Would i grow this the same as i've done my King Oysters, agar to grain (and lc), grain to grain, grain to straw or compost/chips/sawdust?
Is there anything you know about that would be different for the substrate?
Looking forward to trying them, i've never even seen them in aus. If i have as good results as you i'll be happy
Also, i built a similar greenhouse to your's yesterday, but what are the bits of pvc pipe? Are they stuffed with polyfill for ae?

You got it my friend...just your standard chip/sawdust mix with any supplement your using at the moment. Nothing special with these. Just make sure you don't poke more then 2-3 holes in the bag when you get them ready to fruit.
Sometimes they'll fluff up quite a bit in the plenum of the bag, so just cut a little square so it can crawl out of the top and fruit properly.

The fan stays on 24/7, the light is on a 14 hour timer (heavy duty appliance timer $10) and a 15 on/off timer for the Ultra Sonic. I have a DIY repeat cycle timer I'm going to tune to reduce the amount of water waste yet...it cost me $35 to assemble (just a little solder and DIY building). That water reservoir will last me approximately 6 days. So its very very low maintenance and worry free setup.

Thanks mate. That's similar to what i did. A mate gave me an old stainless bread display rack. I found some plastic sheeting in my shed, and last week at the dump shop there were a couple of those asthma humidifiers for $1 the pair. Bit of cellotape and some staples...

I got an old drum and some fittings from the shed and made a remote tank so i don't have to open the plastic. ATM i have it on for 2hrs, three times a day. I'll have to pick up a hygrometer somewhere to see how it's doing, but it looks the buisness.

Looking forward to trying Lions Mane, how would you describe it to eat?

Smart looking set up. Re your DIY timer, despite being in the Uk I bought one of These cycle timer kits from up your way which (so far) works a treat, giving 4 mins/hr of fan in my incubation chamber.

Made by the same guys (different distributor) is this kit that I got.
This Kit Here
It's pretty sensitive to nail it to specific minutes, but it works well for the price compared to $90.
I thought about what Mycelio said in another post and figured I'd post some data on the grow for others in case they want specifics (since this hobby does require more then repition of "standard recipe" and pictures)

Thanks, i appreciate that. When you use woodchips, do you have trouble with them penetrating the bags? The ones i get are cyprus (i think) from my local hardwood sawmill and they are long and splintery rather than square.

Mine are from the chip stack behind my town. So they can be big long branches, sharp shards, square bits, everything...but they aren't bad when I mix them around with the sawdust. It was pretty bad when I was doing only woodchip bags for my outdoor bags. I blew it a few times with those. Not happy about that.
So, what I suggest is...avoid anything that is like a branch, and for the splintery types, maybe just take a pair of heavy wire cutters and lob the really sharp edges off? Though I've never had a splinter go through, just branches. You getting alot punching through when mixed with your sawdust? Are you using unicorn style bags?

Yes the Unicorn bags, that's why i've been trialling the composted chips from the recycle centre (besides that i get em for free )
The chips look like this...

I just used some micropore where the obvious punctures were, but still it's a problem.

Those are far better looking then mine. I wonder why your having so many puncture problems....
Is it Pre-PC, Post-PC or after mixing it around? You doing 5lb bags?
I mix my chips in really well with my sawdust, then I load the bags, then PC. I found I'd get punctures only on the chip-only bags going into the PC when they'd squeeze tight or when I pulled them out and they'd snag.

Seems to be when mixing. I'll persevere and weed out the sharper looking ones.

Hey Punkin, here's what I do-a bit of origami!
Get some newspaper, and fold a few sheets to protect the bag. On the smaller bags I use a folded page to cover the bottom and two sides, then another folded page to cover the bottom and the other two sides.
I started using paper to soak up excess moisture from my grain spawn, and it's the way I do all my bags now.
If your mixing in the bag, it should still work, but maybe use extra paper.
The Canberra times is fine, soybased inks, suitable for agricultural use. Just ring your local rag and ask.

so you're yielding ~8oz per bag per flush? how many flushes do you get per bag? how long does it take from full colonization to harvest?

2 Weeks approx to fruit all the way to harvest.
About 8 oz a bag yup...just make sure you only poke 2 holes to get 2 large fruits or 3 holes for 3 smaller ones.
