This is my first post on this site. I've been using this site for information purposes, and now I finally registered. Heres some pics of a cactus I bought. It is darker and has longer spines than San Pedro... any thoughts?

Hmmm ..Maybe, but Cereus has more rims, which are thinner. I'm thinking either Peruvian torch or (hopefull) Bridgesii...

yeah from the side it looks like a Cereus but top view looks like a Pedro. Maybe a skinny long spined Pedro that needs more water or perhaps another Trichocereus/ Echinopsis of some sort?

It could be a San Pedro strain, but the color does not match any pedro's I have or seen. San Pedros are lighter and fatter. I tried googling different species, and the closest one is Torch. I hope to god it is Bridgesii...

Its not a Bridgesii or a Torch. Could be a Cuzcoensis maybe. Light exposure can vary the color. Its shaped like a Pedro. Torches are kinda oval shaped. Most likely it's a hybrid Pedro.

Cool, thanks CPW, it could be a hybrid with a darker color cactus. I guess I'll see when it grows bigger and fatter.

It does look like a cuzcoensis. It is not active, right? I'm still keeping my hopes up.

You'll have a more conclusive answer as it grows... but IMO It's a cuzco. I predict when it pups the new spines will be yellow and fade to white.
No, cuzcos aren't active; but they're getting interbred quickly. Some of the mutts just might be.

It is definitely a Trichocereus(Echinopsis). It's not a bridgesii and I'm inclined to call it Trichocereus sp. until some new growth comes through, could be a cuzcoensis but I'm not sure. It is a nice cactus though, look after it!

Hey my Cactus just had a pup. I started watering it. It was dehydrated when i bought it, the spines began turning red and brown. If you look at the pup the spines are red...
