I almost never use the brf tek, instead colonizing thousands of pounds of bulk substrates per month. However, the fact remains that no substrate will deliver spores to fruits faster, or with a higher biological efficiency than the brf/pf tek. It's a great learning tool, but nobody runs a commercial mushroom farm using 1/2 pint cakes.
The brf/pf tek is great for new growers to learn the ropes and it's great for testing isolated strains. For people to slam the easiest and fastest way to get mushrooms is just plain dumb. That's like saying a three year old kid shouldn't ever get a tricycle for his birthday because a Harley Davidson will get him where he wants to go much faster. People need to realize than any hobby is a learning experience. You don't slam your kindergarten teacher for teaching you the ABCs, simply because you can now read 'War and Peace'.

I did BRF to start off with and found it to be a lot more difficult to fruit. with a bulk cased tray i didn't have to worry about perlite or a fruiting chamber really. i just stuck the tray in a plastic tub and bam i had mushrooms. dung loving mushrooms might as well be grown on dung. i think a lot of the newbies underestimate how contamination-resistant properly pasteurized manure and cultivated spawn can be.
on another note, i'd love to enter the contest but i'm moving in late june so i wouldn't be able to finish. i'll be looking forward to the next one tho and i'll definitely be watching the action.

I believe this contest is over, and this is the last one we were waiting for to close. All give-aways, contests, etc., need to be conducted in the marketplace forum. That's always been the rule, but we got lax on enforcement and cultivation got flooded with contests.
