Strain: Paradox Lighting: 1 CFL bulb Grow Media/Soil Mix: perlite/potting soil/orchid bark/ Fertilizer: planning to use miracle grow Temperature Range: 70*-78* Humidity: 40-60RH Started From: Clone Start Date: April 22, 2010 Other Details: The plant arrived with a fully developed root system and seems to already be acclimated to regular humidity.
I received my Salvia Divinorum plant on 4/22/10, it was a little stressed from shipping and had a little browning on the edges of some leaves, but was overall in pretty good shape. This little plant had tons of nodes packed throughout the thick half inch thick stem. I was pleasantly surprised that it was received in such great shape. I've been reading the shroomery forums for about three years now, and feel now that i have something worthwhile to contribute i will post something. I will be updating with new pictures on a regular basis. Now for the pictures..
Day 1 pictures taken right after opening package.
The plant was about 7 or 8 inches tall

Close up of the top of the stem

Lower two nodes. (There is also a node under the lowest one in the picture, it was just above the soil.)

Okay, I have re-potted her into a larger pot. I didn't go too much bigger for one reason, i am a little strapped for cash as of right now, and didn't have the money to invest in a good potting mix without peat, and i didn't want too much peat in my grow medium (i plan to obtain organic potting peat free soil on the next re-potting. By stepping up to a much larger pot next time i will hopefully diminish the peat to overall soil ratio low enough that it will not create a sloppy swamp killing of my salvia in years to come.)
I did however have some miracle grow moisture control potting soil (made from coco coir, peat, forest material compost, and a tiny bit of perlite) that i had left over from when i was growing fungi (i was using it as a casing layer) also from the same grow i had tons of perlite. So i mixed up a batch of 60% miracle grow to 40% perlite and put this in the bottom of the pot, carefully removed my plant from her old plastic pot, got her nestled in and gave her a good misting.
Now the eye candy Day 4
Here is the "set up" if you want to call it that. Ive got The 6500k cfl bulb, which is about 41/2" from the top set of leaves. I've also got my spray bottle of de-chlorinated tap water filtered through a standard Britta filter and let to sit out for about 48 hours. The bandanna you see sitting next to the plant is an Insectshield brand bandanna. These things are amazing at repelling about any kind of hellish insect that could bite, sting, burrow into your skin...... or in this case make a feast of my salvia divinorum plant. :P (as an added bonus i got this for free just by emailing the guys.)

Here she is in her new pot (really need to give her a name, i just want the right one to come to me)

A little clearer and closer look. She was in a bit of shock when she came in, and still has a bit of browning and curling, hoping my spraying close to 20 times a day, and light is helping her out.

Okay, now we are at day six of my grow, and this little baby is growing lateral branching like crazy for such a small plant, for what i expected anyway. It seems she has taken all of her energy and put it into growing intermediate branches at the nodes and is putting barely any effort into growing vertically. I have to say, this makes me very very happy, as i was praying for a shorter bushy plant.
plenty of pictures this update!
Day 6
Here is a shot of the whole plant. The top leaves are curling just a bit and have areas in which the leaves appear lighter than the rest of the leaves, almost a yellow color. If i remember correctly from my days of cultivating another enthogen, it can indicate that the plant is receiving too much direct lighting. Is this true as well with Salvia? I have raised the light up to about a foot above the highest set of leaves, and the plant gets light from the window as well. (yes i know that was a given from the photos :P) If i were to leave the light off until the sun started going down and switched on the cfl a for a few hours about a foot above the plant, would this provide her with adequate light?

A little sprout (more like secondary branching that was resting just below the surface) has popped up next to the main stem

here is a shot showing a better profile and all the new growth

secondary branching on the lower nodes

last, some lateral branches from third node (from the top) I apologize for this fuzzy picture, i was having problems getting the camera to focus on this one.

It does look to be in good health but I haven't grown salvia before so just ignore me.
Welcome to the Shroomery!

Thanks man, it's weird to read the forums for so long that you get a feel for who people are, i mean i have to have read thousands of threads, and to now be a part of the place. I absolutely love the Shroomery. I haven't ever grown Salvia either man, but i researched quite a bit before i got the plant.

I have a Salvia plant for a few weeks now. Can't really call that experience, but it's growing nicely so far.

Well hey, that's more experience than I've got. Haha, have you notices anything the young plant seemed to enjoy, other that the typical mistin, good light and humidity?

Well, I just put it in really high humidity and it seems to be enjoying itself. Other than that I know that over-watering can be really lethal to Salvia D. That's about as far as my experience goes.

Yeah I've read if there's one thing you don't want to do is drown it. Do you have any threads for your Sally plant?

That there plant is definately established well, so you probably won't need to put it into humidity. The roots seem established enough to support that plant in your ambient humidity. Just mist it a lot at first, and I'd transplant it within a few days too. Transplant it into a mix of 50/50 perlite/soil, or add a little compost or other organic matter for even better results. Good luck!

Thanks nitelife, i was planning on transplanting tonight or tomorrow. I have been misting constantly with filtered tap water that was set out for about 24 hours, the plant has no humidity tent, as you said it seemed well acclimated. I assume you are the same man as the man behind the matching screen name at salviasource? If so, i am honored to have you commenting on my salvia grow =) you seem to know your stuff when it comes to the cultivation of Salvia Divinorum. I also have a thread over there in the grow logs my screen name is SPAZ by the way. Thanks again for your input!
