Spring Turkey Season

Well I broke the old Benelli out, changed the choke to a extra full and fired a few rounds to pattern some new ammo. I was wondering, is there any other turkey hunters here on The Shroomery??? I know gun owners in general are the minority here but I can honestley say collecting/hunting is just a step ahead of my other obvious hobby. I guess it's just because I have so many more years and money invested in this hobby.
I was also checking out the new rules in the hunting pamplet and I noticed that your allowed to carry your CC firearm this year. Which IMHO is absolutley GREAT!!!
It's not that I need it, it's just that I've gotten in such a habit of having that weight on my hip that I feel naked without it.

I'm planning on hunting at my in-laws. 120 acres with a ton of turkey! This will be my first turkey hunt ever. I'll be using my 12 gauge Mossberg(wish I had a Benelli ) What kind of ammo do you use for your hunt? Gun collecting is my other big hobby also. Glad there's more of us on here.

Yeah I almost thought I was alone in this endeavor. I use 3in Federal flight control #4 shot. But to be honest that cheap Wal-Mart Remington Nitro Turkey shoots really well out of my turkey gun also.
I've wanted to try Winchester Extended Range but I just can't bring myself to pay $30 for shotgun ammo.

You ever tried bow hunting Turkey? I've thought about taking my recurve out and giving it a shot.

I have a hard enough time killing them with a shotgun let alone a bow. I would think though that if you had a good blind and decoys of some sort it wouldn't be to difficult.
I had three gobbling at me this morning and never could get them to come to me. Bastards!!!
I'm going to shoot'em twice when they finally do get within range.

Yeah it's raining here to. I went this morning and I just got back. Same results, got 4 different gobblers talking to me I just couldn't get them to move. I came back in when it started raining. They were still gobbling when I left. I would say one was within 80 yards it's just so steep and thick here they would have to be within 25 yards to get a visual. That's ok though I've got a new game plan now.

My parents own and operate a 500 acre cattle farm in central VA. Too bad some developer flattened all of the nesting habitat next door...We used to have a very healthy turkey population, not any more.
