Can this be integrated into the main forum list somehow? Maybe via a small color changing shroom next to the subforum name or something?

I'm using the default theme and there are only indicators for main forums, not subforums. What theme are you using?

"Mystery Ocean", lol.
There are little arrows next to each subforum name on the board index. If there are new posts, they are colored yellow; if there are no new posts they are white. The difference is kinda subtle but it's there.

Yeah, it's the same in the default theme. Jesus fuck those arrows are small. Never even saw them before...

Yeah, they're tiny! I'll admit it took me a while to notice them too.. but they do the job well enough, like you said. =]
