Anno, can you use BRF/verm jars to spawn Pan Cyans?

Sure, why not. Probably the best would be to treat them with a food processor for a few seconds and then mix with pasteurized dung or straw/dung. Cover and after full colonization case.

*Kowtows to Anno 3 times in reverence*

That's absolutely gorgeous. I hope mine turn out so pretty.

Quick question since we're discussing pans: I followed Ralphster's tek to innoculate the finch feed. I am worried that my seeds may have been a bit too wet after I drained them from the pre-boil part of the tek. If I indeed had "too wet" bird seed going into the PC....is there any way visually I can tell if the seed is too wet? Will the substrate still be colonized?

I'm hoping they'll be okay...they looked "okay" to me as I was spooning them into the jars...but this being my first time working with seeds, I'm not too sure about proper seed/water content.

Thanks for any advice or tips!

Peace,

Bop

Do you find it better to sterlize the dung/straw rather than pasturize it with Pan's?

When you pasteurize, you can inoculate the substrate more or less in the open, since the pasteurized substrate has some resistance to contamination.

If you STERILISE the substrate, you HAVE TO inoculate and colonize it in sterile conditions, ie inoculate in front of a flow hood and colonize in a spawn bag for instance.

If I personaly want to do small amounts of substrate, then I sterilize, if I have bigger amounts, I pasteurize.

For me, the sterilized dung conaminates less than the pasteurized. The downside is that the sterilization and inoculation of big amounts is technicaly more requiring.

I can really see if there is a significant increase in size from those aussie pans on straw and from mine on manure. I havent tried straw yet for these, but the aussie pans are always meatier than other pan cyans ive grown - should i try straw in you opinion anno??
