39 studies since 1927 (out of 43) have found that the more educated a person is, and the higher one's intelligence, the less likely someone is to hold religious beliefs.http://www.humanreligions.info/intelligence.html

Some of the dumbest people I've ever met were religious. You can almost count on it.

Yeah, the basic problem with religion is it over-generalizes the human condition.

It's not about smart or dumb. It's about reason.
If it were possible to reason with religious people, there wouldn't be any religious people... that House doctor guy said it. I agree.

Reasoning I would consider a related ability of human intelligence.

You really doubt I've met dumb atheists? Sorry to break it to you, but they exist. As do smart Christians. The biology professor at the college I work at has a doctorate in Zoology and is a Roman Catholic, and the math teacher who has a degree in quantum physics belongs to the Salvation Army church.
I guess this another case of personal incredulity being a weak base.

It also shows that more intelligent people are more likely to adopt a religion other than the one they were raised in. Thus, religions like Buddhism and Taoism are associated with higher intelligence in America, and there is a similar correlation between Christianity and intelligence in Japan. Basically, what it comes down to is that more intelligent people are more likely to question the beliefs and values they were raised with.

i agree. most organized religion is based around 2 opposing concepts...it is impossible to unify love and fear. and when you start forcing concepts through fear down childrens throats they will believe anything, sometimes for the rest of their lives, which robs them of the chance of having any true spiritual awakenings later in life. ones spirituality is intimate and should be found on ones own

No I don't doubt their are dumb atheists I just doubt they are some of the dumbest people you've met.
But I would guess we are using the term dumb and smart slightly differently. Going to college does not make one smart nor does having a degree the way I use the term.

What about spirituality?
What about those who denounce all religions, yet believe in something higher than themselves?
Any studies on that?
As for Intelligence and Religion, we know that the Majority of the world is religious, we also know the majority of people are stupid.
That doesn't really say much for either side, if Atheism and religion had their numbers reversed, you would see the exact same outcome.
Masses are always less intelligent.
That's what dumb people do, they follow the large crowds.

How is this not religion? It's based on faith for something without evidence.

My faith is based on evidence.
However, I should have said "organized religion" In my statement.

Why don't we all take an IQ test from the same site.
Then we can post screen shots of scores, of those who know and those who don't.
Then we will have our own study.
