Fully colonized WBS jar... Rez assistance?
#12124837 - 03/01/10 10:19 PM (2 years, 2 months ago) |

This is my first grow ever. I have one large jar of 100% WBS fully colonized. MY understanding of the Rez effect is:
sterilize a medium/large bag of substrate (WBS in my case) break up jar into bag (in safe little chamber thing) let bag colonize.. place in FC...
where does the dry verm come into play?
what else am i leaving out?

You have several options since you already have a colonized jar of spawn.... you could make a mono-tub using coir as your bulk substrate like I do... works great.

he's asking about a rez-effect, I think...which is nothing but 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of spawn to vermiculite..not the best method but it will work...i have a few small trays of GT doing this now, just because i had some extra spawn that i didn't want to throw away

If I was you I would personally do a G2G and turn one jar into 10, then make a mono tub with those jars.

But i'd save 1 of the 10 jars and do another G2G

Yeah I do 4 generations at most.
Take one jar turn it into 10, take 1 of that 10 and turn it into 10 more. Do that 4 times. Thats like 40 jars. lol.. Easy as pie.

The name 'rez effect' was coined when it was thought that vermiculite had no nutrients and was only a moisture reservoir. The idea was to mix grains and verm in roughly a 50/50 mix for fruiting. However, we know now that the verm acts as a bulk substrate, supplying both moisture and minerals to support a flush.
Pasteurize moistened vermiculite and mix your colonized wbs into it. Spread it out in a tray and cover with foil for a week to ten days until fully colonized. Then, expose to fruiting conditions. RR

RogerRabbit's idea is right on, but I have another suggestion.
Take that WBS jar and make a grain-LC with it. Then you can inoculate even MORE jars and have an even bigger amount of material to work with.

Roger Rabbit said to Pasteurize 100% moistened verm, then mix fully colonized WBS jar (1 pint) into pasteurized verm, cover with tin foil and let colonize.
My question is: Is there a ratio of colonized WBS to moistoned verm I should use?
1:2?
Or does it really matteR?

I'm pretty sure it's a 1:1 ratio.
Why not just go get a brick or coir and you'll be much more happy.

It's coconut fibers. Mix that with 10% spent coffee grinds and you'll have way more 'shrooms. You can even skip the coffee and use straight coir.
Use a ration of 1:4 if you do it this way.

now, what is the priority on cleanliness in the coir + coffee grounds method. Should i pasteurize it, put it into tray, and can i use a layer of dry verm on the top of it to prevent contaminants from getting in... or?

Pasteurize it yes, the dry verm isn't necessary. Put a "frosting" layer of infected WBS kernels on top and no contaminant will gain a foothold before the mycelium. Once it's 100% then put a layer of moistened verm on top and introduce fruiting conditions.
