Edit: Well it is 3 days in and I have seen healthy myc growth. The LC pic I posted was a few days old, when I took the LC there was 2 cups of LC in the jar and the myc was solidly thick up to about half an inch below the surface. Thank god I invested in a stir plate.
As I said there is healthy myc growth at the injection sites. Those are the black blotches, the injection site being an X of the plastic medical tape I bought by accident covered with a single piece of gorilla tape. I didn't want to chance the tape not being an adequate filter which is why I covered it, and as I used to use this tape in the military to hold things together I know that it is sealed.
My buddy found out that this is treasure coast, by the way.

Yay! I don't have TC myself so I'll be interested in watching to see how it turns out.
Got your fruiting chambers ready? What's the plan?

I am just doing some simple monotubs. They are Sterlite brand from walmart totally clear, and I have some very nice 2 mil contractor black trash bags for the sides.
I am planning to spawn to my own recipe. It is as follows: Coir:40% Straw:25% Verm:20% Gypsum:10% Coffee:5% And I plan to spawn at a 1:3 ratio.
On a side note, I have a small bag of grain that isn't going to be used as spawn with this run, I am planning on using it right now to spawn to a yet to be decided mix with Alpaca poo, my family raises them so there is no shortage. I am simply waiting for all that shit I had to shovel to be properly leached naturally.

In my opinion straw is not needed at all with Coir. Cori/Verm/Gypsum is perfect, I find coffee is alright to add but also makes it more prone to contams.
My fave is Manure/Verm/Gypsum
For coir I would just do
16 quarts Coir 2 quarts verm 1 quart gypsum

It may not be needed but I am taking a page out of RR's book. I want my mushies to have a nice diverse diet, and it can't hurt anything to add it in. I have gone quite in depth into the coffee debate, and I have decided to keep it in there, for the N boost, but am cutting it back to a small amount to lessen the chance of contams. The grounds are from starbucks btw.

Well, 2 of my bags are most likely shot. I went to check on them today and unfortunately they had very visible wet spots on the bottom, one wasn't too thick, the other was a deep layer of grain sticking to the bottom. I mixed them up, hoping against all hope that the moisture would be absorbed by other grain as they are decent sized bags. They are separated from the others so I can actively keep track of their progress, or destruction. I do not think any bacteria had a chance to develop yet, as when I mixed the bag it smelled only of WBS and myc...I think I am going nuts.
The batteries died in my camera, so I will snap some pics later.

I always get either green mold, or wet-like growth, slowing down the myc everytime i try to grow ... If you have a cell phone, you can take a pic with the cell, and text it in a picture message to your email address instead of another number...Then go on your computer and email, and save the pic to your computer ....Its the only way i can post pics

so the bags have a means of gas exchange or did you cover the only holes with gorilla tape? Might be a contam, might also be gas exchange. Are their filters below the tape?

Update: 22 Mar 2010 Well, 1 bag is ready quite faster than the others. Unfortunatly I didn't take a pic before, but it seemed just fine, it was just 1/2 the volume of the other bags and didn't have the moisture problem the others do. They are way too wet, but I mix them frequently so it doesn't sit, may be I can salvage them after all, I don't see any contams.
On to what may have happened tonight.
This is the FC I am going to use. It is a sterlite 50 or 60 qt container, not completely sure as I bought it a long while back. That is after drilling the first half of holes.
By this point the holes were all done and I took my 2mil contractor trash bags (they block all light going in) and stretched it around the sides. I am leaving it like this because it doesn't really need ge until it is time to fruit. I spawned to straight coir, as budget cutbacks forced me to just do it. I have seen others do it with quite a bit of success. I then took a little bit extra and cased it over the mixed layer, trying to leave no area exposed.
This is after it is all done and the lid is locked on tight. After this I just slipped it into another contractor bag and put it in my closet to be forgotten for a week...
