Need a little help preparing... AA930 related questions...

So living the mantra a teacher once told me "Prior Planning Prevents Personal Problems"... bet the teacher never new what I would apply this too...HAH anyways...
I have received a brand-spanking new AA930 which I am so excited to use! However, as mentioned, I am still in the planning process. I am trying to do a grow and not be left with a ton of extra supplies. Using WBS...Onto the questions...
1. How many quart jars will the AA930 hold? I believe I saw 19 qt jars, is that accurate?
2. Will using bags achieve better space efficiency in the PC? If so, what size bags?
3. I saw in an old-hands tek, I believe Monstermeich that his PC was lined in foil... reasons?
4. I have a glass top stove and after reading some posts it seems that using a large PC like the AA930 will ruin it. Am I better off getting a separate heating pad for it? If so, any recommendations? Now that I think about it, my parents have one that they use when deep-frying turkey.. would this work? I'd rather not discolor the PC...(like black marks on the bottom from the flame)
5. How much water do I need to have in the PC? Various posts indicate a wide range of amounts... I DO plan to let steam escape the vent for 7-10 minutes par a post a read by RR.
I am sure I have more, but I'll leave it as is for some replies!
Thanks so much Shroomers!

I'd be exited, too!! I'll try to tackle what I can
1. At LEAST 14, maybe 19. 2. Yes, but I can't get any more specific than that. 3. I've never used bags, but I understand that with a gas stove, heat coming up around the sides can melt the bags, but that this won't happen with electric. Personally, Id err on the side of caution and line it. 4. I've seen posts by people who have had no problem, but that could depend on the stove, YMMV. If you can get another heat source, use it. 5. That depends. If you run the burner high and the weight rattles a lot, you'll lose more water. The weight should rattle only a little. The PC should have some instructions for canning and you should follow them. My old 21 qt. has no weight but a valve so it loses very little water. I use max 1.5".

2. Well if Mycelius rex is right in saying at least 14 jars, then yes, you can probably fit eight large gusseted filter patch bags in there no problem, but jars will still have their applications and uses and I recommend you still have a couple packs of qt jars on hand.
3. I've had bags burn up in a PC on a electric range on medium. The sides of the bags touched the side, then melted a tiny bit, and made a tiny hole that made them useless. I always line or put spacers anywhere the bags might poof out and touch the sides, so yes, line it.
4. I've seen people use the propane powered flame burners, but I can't input to what amount of success, only thing I can say, is do not use your glass range, the weight alone of that PC when it's full to the brim with moist substrate/spawn and jars, would ward me off putting it on my glass range.
5. You can PC with nothing in it or completely full, IME. I've done both (well, the closest to empty I've come is 1 1/2pint jar) with no harm on the PC

No. No. No.
You NEVER want to run a PC with nothing in it. The heat can and will run away and you can RUIN a PC. "well, the closest to empty I've come is 1 1/2pint jar) with no harm on the PC" If you have even half a cup of water in your PC at the end of a cycle, you're fine. It's just a close call. Just never let it go dry.
Maybe you misread the post. Sure, you can run a PC with no jars, but the OP was asking about water level.

Thanks for all of the input!
I guess I need to look more into a heating pad for it... anyone have any suggestions?
Still wondering about capacity for optimum space efficiency and what size the bags should be... if no replies I will spend Sat. figuring it out!
Thanks again!

You can find electric hot plates that you just set on a surface and plug in. I personally just use a single electric burner I got at walmart. It does the job on my 23qt presto, but for a larger PC like that I imagine you'll want to look into a higher power more sturdy electric burner (mine creaks under the weight of the full PC on it, but holds solid, even if it does break soon, I've gotten more than enough use for the $26 it cost me to get it 9 months ago)

Yeah, mine always heats it up enough, but sometimes if I'm PCing outside it wont keep pressure if it's a little too cold, so I drop a towel lining over it (that still allows steam to escape) to insulate it and damn it heats up quick.
Always something to consider, most big department stores have a liberal return policy, where you can return opened appliances with a reciept. I'm sure if you look enough you'll be able to find the minimum power you need in a burner, but you can always just buy one, test it and return it if it doesn't work at most places.
