Monotub Shotgun Measurements?

We've all seen pics of monotubs working with shotgun holes here on the shroomery. In most cases RR's infamous 1/4" holes are used.
I was wondering about the difference between using big holes stuffed with polyfill and the little shotgun holes and from what I've gathered it seems the main difference is that for big holes you can just tightly stuff with polyfill for colonization, as for with lots of small holes it would probably be best to cover with micropore.
I've wondered, would it work still if you just used 1/4" holes and individually stuffed each hole with polyfill for colonization, then removed the bits of polyfill for fruiting?
Anyways, the main point is that I wanted to get a consensus on what are the best perceived measurements for drilling holes into a monotub. I've seen it done a few ways here on the shroomery. In fact, I even saw a mini dubtub on here by veda that performed excellently with only about 6 little holes I believe. When I first saw the mini dubtub i thought there was no way just a few small holes would provide enough FAE, but boy oh boy was I wrong!
Anyways, one of my main concerns with the measurements is having too many holes and drying out the substrate. Obviously my other concern would be that the 1/4" holes don't get the job done (considering i won't be fanning very often, which always seems to be just fine when using properly designed chambers) I have no experience with bulk sub, but judging by the amount of holes needed for a monotub compared to the holes every 2 inches on all six dimensions for the average SG chamber and cakes, im assuming they need less FAE?
This is sort of what it looked like in my head......

The whites dots being the holes.... Anyways would it also be good to have holes on the sides or would that be too many?
If anyone can post any pictures they have of monotubs with small drilled holes that would be great, we can also make this the monotub non-big-circular-polyfill-stuffed-hole thread
Any experiences with shotgun style monotubs shared would also be greatly appreciated.

Do a search for Doc T mini mono tub. It really isn't a mono tub, it is kinda a hybrid between a mono tub and a shotgun. I think what Doc does is when colonizing, he puts the tub in a garbage bag and ties it shut.
Also if you are making one you should set it up just like a shotgun. 1/8 inch holes I think every 2 inches.

You don't cover the little holes at all- that's the magic. It's my preferred method, the link is in my sig block.
@Damion- thanks!

Cool link. Thanks.
You put it in a sealed plastic blag for colonization? Doesn't that cut off gas exchange? Can you elaborate on that part for me?

I pretty much put all tubs into or under a bag for colonization. It seems to work ok.

What do you use, a trash bag? Do you seal the bag or tie it shut or anything? Does the bag have to be black, will a white trashbag work? Thx

I don't twist it or seal it, but I usually tuck it under so that air doesn't blow in there. You don't want a lot of light- so use a black bag or put them in a box or closet.
