4,800 hits of LSD seized by Watauga County Sheriff’s Office

 The largest seizure of LSD in the country this year has been reported by the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office.
Assisted by the Raleigh Police Department, the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office seized 4,800 dosage units (hits) of LSD with an estimated street value of $48,000. LSD, or Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, is also commonly known as Acid.
Police report that their undercover agents arranged for 5,000 hits of LSD to be delivered and purchased. Detectives from multiple police departments aided in this investigation, including the Orange County Sheriff’s Office which assisted in the arrest of an Appalachian State University student who was reportedly responsible for arranging the delivery of the LSD from his supplier.
This investigation also led to the seizure of thirteen pounds of hallucinogenic mushrooms, 12.5 pounds of marijuana, and approximately $13,000.
From the original operation beginning in Watauga County to the final operation ending in New Hanover County, detectives seized the following: 4,800 dosage units/hits of LSD with an estimated street value of $48,000, 13 lbs of hallucinogenic mushrooms with an estimated street value of $119,000, 12.5 lbs of marijuana with an estimated street value of $80,000, approximately $13,000 in US currency, and one handgun.
In 2009, the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division led the entire nation for the largest Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, LSD, seizure which totaled 1,581 dosage units/hits. The seizure of the LSD was through an undercover operation which resulted in the arrest of two people, one of whom was a student attending Appalachian State University.
Because the investigation is ongoing, the names of the individuals involved will not yet be divulged; more arrests are expected to follow.
