The grain quality in terms of the achivable moisture content varies greatly.
As you can see, Una uses 100g rye and 130 g water.
I tried this once with my rye, it gave me a unshakeable gunk of exploded kernels.
A test batch is a must at the start with a new grain, even if you get a new bag of the supposedly same grain it pays off.

living here in California and being very dry. humidity levels here in the Bay Area are around 30-40% which is very dry. All my quart jars are filled with 1.5 cups of rye grain and 1.5 cups of water. They are pressure cooked for 1 hour and taken out and shaken to distribute and mix the top dry grain with the moist wet grain on the bottom. I am using Micron Magick filters. Being in a climate of 30-40% humidity, I found it necessary to put my jars in a humidity chamber. My jars are doing quite well. =D

For 1liltre jars i use 1 cup rye 3/4 cup spring water or distilled pH is a major factor! Then i use 10ml of hydrogen peroxide when jars have cooled ( that's pressure cooked for 1 hour @ 15 psi) The 10ml hp is for 8oz grain use 20ml for 16oz.
