Just read this entire thread and found almost NO info on South American's. My friend is trying to decide between SA's, Brazilians and Cambodians for his first grow. He's read all the vendor descriptions but would like to hear some personal experiences. He said he's leaning towards the SA's.
Also, what's so great about GT? I personally think theyre ugly as hell...

Ok, John allen is my new favorite strain, Took 8 days to start pinning for each one of my monotubs all chalk full of this result

I found the strain to be just as advertised, Incredibly resistant to contaminations. Fast colonization, I would highly recommend this strain for any begginner grower who wants solid results.

Of the one's I've tried, Ecuadors were my favorite. I also like Cambodian. Both gave me lots of nice-looking fruits.

I just noticed my Golden Teachers are extremely prone to bruising. The bruises are dark... ink blue. Is this common to all golden teachers?

What strain fits these criteria? I'm looking for the perfect strain(for me) [Re: fungitobewith]

From pictures I've seen, Malabar looks like a strain that produces a high number of shrooms packed very close together. I am looking for a strain that displays consistent shape and size combined with large heads and potentcy. The only problem that I have with Malabar is that it does better in very high temps.
Are there any other cubensis strains that procude such dense growth? What do you suggest?
Basically, the criteria I am looking for in a strain are: a)dense growth b)potentcy c)colonize/grow well in lower temps. d)ability to grow in small spaces. e)easy caretaking and heartiness

The pictures on vendor sites are all pictures of ideal flushes in ideal conditions. The strain does not determine how bountiful your flush is.
>Basically, the criteria I am looking for in a strain are: >a)dense growth
This is a function of the substrate you use and how you prepare your casing layer. Search for "hyphae's pinning strategy."
>b)potentcy
The consensus is that potency does not vary much between strains.
>c)colonize/grow well in lower temps.
You'll hear all kinds of different opinions about which strain colonizes better, but I believe other variables (type of spawn/substrate, etc) have much more of an effect. All strains will do fine fruiting and colonizing at room temperatures (70s F).
>d)ability to grow in small spaces.
Again, nothing to do with strain. Just depends on the size of your fruiting chamber, really.
>e)easy caretaking and heartiness
All cubensis strains are pretty easy.
Have fun!

I realize that all the pics on vendor sites, particularly "the little guy" may be ideal situations. still, the malabar looks to be extremely dense compared to the rest. Maz looks very dense too though. Any info on these would be good.
What techniques are used to raise the temp and humidity?

Any strain has the potential to grow densly, if you do it right. Of course there are differences in growth parameters, too.
To raise temps and humidity, most people use heaters and humidifiers.

All of them. I've had really good luck (not on cakes) with Amazonian from SporeWorks, if you want a recommendation.
