Cheap, deadly ecstasy pills hit streets

ECSTASY pills are getting cheaper and more dangerous, a new national study has revealed.
The drug's street price in Western Australia alone dropped for the first time last year to hit a new low, Perth Now
reports.
The National Drug Research Institute said that an ecstasy pill in Western Australia cost on average $35, $5 less than in 2008, after years of stable prices.
Survey results also showed that young users were taking the party drug more often and in bigger quantities.
A study of 100 regular users found the number who binged on the drug rose from 22 per cent in 2008 to 40 per cent in 2009.
Daniel Fatovich, an emergency medicine specialist at Royal Perth Hospital, warned that cheaper prices meant more Western Australians could afford multiple pills, increasing the risk of overdoses.
The drop in Perth's ecstasy price was the first recorded by researchers for the national Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System, which monitors trends in the drug's price, purity and availability.
The 2009 survey also found while other drugs were in decline, ecstasy was more popular. The majority of users took at least two pills a night.
Ecstasy purity also fluctuated, with pills now more likely to contain harmful substances.
Detective superintendent Charlie Carver, of the Serious and Organised Crime Squad, said many seized ecstasy pills contained harmful chemicals such as chalk and washing powder.
There was a significant drop last year in the use of speed, crystal methamphetamine and cocaine.

Pure MDMA is cheaper than that bullshit.
It's probably all BZP or mephedrone/methylone(can't remember which) though.

To be honest, I've never touched more then personal use for safety reasons, but I have friends that can get beans for roughly $3-$8 a pop in bulk but nobody round here pays more then 20 on average, although you can find people trying to be cut throats at dance parties with $25/$30 a piece due to supply and demand. Also, I have NO clue of the purity of them but they seem to fluctuate greatly in quality so who knows... I just remember that the good ones never dropped less then $13/$14 a piece bulk so they never were less then $20 for everyone else. Who knows what poor sold payed what for those real deals.. Point is, i feel that cheap beans is pretty open to having substandard great quality so usually I wait to hear from a friend who has bio assayed to let me know if its worth it. I've never bought E or had it, but I've got plenty of friends who have. It seems like the average price for a pill or a hit of acid is $20au ($18usd) on the east coast. $35 seems a bit much, especially for a supposed reduced price.
My friend says prices for pretty much everything in NZ is ridiculous.

Not sure if it's the way I'm reading it, but I think it's the way this is written..
Does it seem like "took at least two pills a night" insinuate a growing trend? Sure, other drugs might be in decline to this study, but ecstasy isn't something like pot where purity has a large margin of error between street & 100%.
Prohibition = difficulty in getting more pure in = dealers cutting product more = people buying more = people reselling/taking = people taking. No shit they're gonna need two after it reaches the average user.
It's not like there's a whole generation of E heads anymore - I think they grew up and moved to the financial sector...

Yea, same here...I was about to say, those prices are ridiculous!..
When i used to get pills it was always $5-$10 each if i was buying a couple...Price only went down from there as you bought more. And they were typically anywhere from mediocre to really good pills...Got a pill with speed once, and got some piperazines once...I no longer touch pills.
And for $20-$30 you can get find some good Molly.

Hey...
a friend of a friend of mine just got 10 for $37 each in perth 22 january 2010..
that is the standard rate.. if you were to buy them at a festival or club they would be $50-60 each..
the foaf generally gets them for $30.
again this is the standard price for perth western australia..
the arcticle is correct in that prices have been the same since 96..
purity is not consistant...
who ever tells you they get them cheaper is full of shit or gets a larger quantity than most..
