Why so many mutants only on the first flush?

Excuse the noob question, but I am wondering what could cause tons of small mushies that happen to also be mostly mutants, to then go on to have a nice second flush with big mushies and no mutants.
At first I thought that it must be the strain (Ecuador) or the grower (first timer me ). But then the second flush was beautiful, so I just want to make sure I don't do what I did the first time. This was a mycobag that I had waited 3 1/2 weeks from full colonization, then birthed into a shotgun to try to induce pinning. 2 1/2 weeks after that I had pins, and two weeks later full mushies.
(In this picture I had picked off a lot of the mutants because their caps were open and they were dropping spores.)

1 week after that I had the second flush with full fruits 8 days later.

Each flush was exactly 12 grams dry (not sure if this is good or not, but it was great for me )
So what gives? Is there anyway to avoid the tiny mutants I got the first time?
Thanks!

My first grow was totally flawed by a viral or bacterial induced mutation. RR suggested that it may be due to the premature spawning and I really did birth them a bit earlier then I was supposed to. However I had only flush of extremely potent sclerotia balls that were trippy as fuck. Id give anything to have those mutants back.
Im not really sure why u had mutants only on the 1st flush but whatever u do keep them and enjoy. I love mutant mushies

First pic, the block is really blue from dryness. That's part of it, I feel certain.

Did you by any chance use bleach? I know many wouldn't agree but I noticed bleach (and maybe even bleach fumes) can badly affect the way your mushrooms grow. I can't prove it though.

Mutants can be caused by the use of chemical sanitizers, such as lysol.

No bleach or anything like that. We don't even have harsh cleaners in our home. Only baking soda and regular soap.
I am starting to think that maybe a lot of the pin caps were touching and fused. I don't know.
