Stolen Checking Card - What Would You Do, If You Knew Who?
    #11691309 - 12/21/09 12:24 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

So it appears some nigs (actual nigs) stole my Debit/Credit/Check Card information. Now, if you've never experienced this before, it's usually a pretty standard procedure, and the process isn't all that much of a hassle, depending on the bank you have or protection you have. Luckily, I like my Bank (Bank of America) and have good protection on the account already. The issue of the money being returned, and the fraudulent activity is going to be handled - without much worries.

However, from the Shroomery, I wanted to see what exactly you would do in this situation - the situation being, you think you know exactly who's responsible for this. Is vigilante justice required or maybe should I escalate this (whether through McDonalds or PD)? Considering, I think I know who the criminals are (back story in a minute) or should I just say fuck it, bank returned my funds, no worries right?

Back Story:

It's Saturday Night (Actually "Sunday Morning" around 3 AM), I got the munchies, with a minor case of cotton mouth. Pull into a McDonalds, order a Crispy Ranch Snack Wrap and a Small Fry. Comes out to exactly $2.75 - I pay in Cash (I had exactly $2.75).

So in my head, I'm questioning whether or not to order a Small Coke for 1.06 with Tax and charge it to my Debit (have 1.08 in the account). Eventually, I make the decision, and I hand the guy at the drive-through window my card, he completes the transaction, hands me the Coke, and receipt. I'm waiting for the food, and a few minutes pass. Eventually, his fat nigger manager boss comes in, and is like "Oh sir your Card didn't go through." At this point I'm like, "No mam, it surely did, see the receipt." Then both of them began to have an altercation, wasn't really paying attention to them, but it wasn't an argument (nobody was yelling), but it definitely was peculiar and sounded like they were both up to no good (I vaguely remember hearing them communicating to each other, "Oh so is this what you did," "You put it in wrong" etc. etc. etc. but it didn't sound genuine, it's as if they were acting). Then she turns to me again, "Sorry sir, it didn't go through. I'll print you a receipt, and show you the differences between the two receipts (since I said to her the first time, look it already went through)." I didn't think anything of it at the time; I was tired, hungry, and thirsty. So, I went against my better judgment and just said, whatever, "run it through again. I'll find out if there's something wrong here one way or another." Side note: another odd thing about the whole ordeal, is the woman was being OVERLY-POLITE, I mean every word out of her mouth was "Sweetie," eg. "OKAY SWEETIE, SORRY ABOUT THAT SWEETIE, LOOK SWEETIE LET ME SHOW YOU." They hand me my food, I go park, and then eat.

One more thing, I remember what both of these people look like. So If I were to go to the McDonalds, I'd easily be able to identify them (from the Managers voice alone, actually)

Fast forward to today. I get a call from the Bank EARLY in the morning, about possible fraudulent activity, they froze the account and canceled the card. After a cup of coffee, I check my online banking. See all the transactions, and they are from Miami. I don't live in Miami, I rarely go to Miami, obviously haven't been there between Saturday and Monday, as I live about an hour from there. So long story short, I get in my car, and fly over to the Bank to get all of this situated. The Bank and Fraud Dept. are doing there job. My money will be credited tomorrow, and so that part is taken care of.

However, now my question for The Shroomery is, do I take this further? Just in case this corrupt manager and her side-kick are doing this to other people? Do I go directly to the McDonalds or to the Police Department to make a report?

What would you do? I'm looking for some responses.

Also, you know what the first transaction is on the Card. $70 from the Liquor Store - figures...
What would you do in this situation?
You may choose only one
Nothing, you got your money back who cares bro
Go to McDonalds with a bat in your hand
Just go to the PD and file a claim...
OTHER (make sure you post your solution)

We don't like being called nigs or niggers, FYI.

I'd be investigative before i just flew off the handle. Sometimes those fuckers will swipe an alternate machine that is small enoughto be tucked into a pocket and all your info has been stolen. If thats the case then they're probably connected to some bad motor scooters who recruited her or him to do the deed. alot of times they'll have five or six people all doing it around town. If its organized then back off and let the pd worry but if you see its just some mother fucker playing you then... Watch them leave work and follow them home.

Become devious!

Not when you're acting like a nig... thanks for the lesson in euphemisms though.

That's what I was thinking, it may be a part of something larger. They didn't actually steal my Card, but somehow they were able to use it at other places just like a Card - which means it was cloned. I just checked my Bank of America account, and there isn't even a transaction for the $1.06 Coke. Which means, maybe the receipts printed were from the "pocket machine" you're speaking of.

You can't really roll into Mickie D's with a crow bar tucked under your arm. They have cameras.

Either go to McD's corporate or the Police Station.. or both.

This is a tough one.

I don't condone cooperating with the police, but I don't condone violence either. And they're probably going to fuck over more people like this.

I'd say the best decision out of the given options is to file a police report. Not good, but better than resorting to violence or allowing them to get away with it.

The obstacle is the path.

I was thinking about going to both, but I'm wondering if I went to both, could I press charges. This could be a nice opportunity to sue McDonalds IMO.

Actually, if the "Small Coke Transaction" when through only .02 lol, but my savings is pretty juiced (which is connected to the account). The issue here again, is not about my money, but other people possibly getting their info stolen (and can I get some more money out of this, because a lack of security/trust worthy employees on their side).

Also, i got burnt buying RC's....I actually think my bank messed it up on this one. Anyways they gave me that money back also.

Please report them, bc im sure they are doing it to others that arent as quickwitted as you were.

Meh, talk to the fraud department, explain what happened and see what you can do.

Like you said, you're money and accounts are taken care of, its not worth your effort to chase down some scumbags working at McDonald's.

Violence? Nope. Not worth potentially getting arrested and put in jail, put on probation etc. I'd go file a police report, let the cops do something fucking useful. Maybe teach those thieving bastards a lesson.

They can't use your debit card to access you savings unless they know your PIN.

Just report it and get a new card.

Already spoke with them, probably will have to talk to them again tomorrow. I feel like they aren't concerned with the "Back Story" just all they care about is "My Account" and returning it back to a normal status (Which is a good thing I suppose).

For the most part, I was being sarcastic about the Vigilante Justice (obviously only makes things worse). I'm more or less concerned with other peoples, and if anyone with any experience in Law, can chime in on whether or not I might have a legitimate case here (against McDonalds :tongue2:)

You can get an exact time and place the cards were used, go to the stores and ask for surveillance tapes. Get the bank to give you some paperwork you will need to show the manager, and get the stores to give you copies of the tapes. If you can convince a court that your suspects are who you think they are, you could sue the individuals, or maybe talk to a lawyer if your 100% sure it was the girls grom McD's about filing a suit against McD's. Right now you have no proof, and your suspicions sound kind of racist.

If you're worried about that and money's not the issue, then report it to the police and have a thorough investigation done.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking, not sure though if it's worth the hassle.

...but racist? C'mon now, when you live up to your stereotype, it's not my fault - I believe I have the privilege of calling you any name I want, out of frustration.

The proof is pretty solid, and in my ATM Receipts / Banking Transactions. I rarely use the card, and I rarely with-draw funds from it. It more or less is used to build up my savings account (keep the change from BOA).

Not to mention, THERE ARE MORE TRANSACTIONS FROM THAT EXACT MCDONALDS, THAT AREN'T FROM ME, THAT WERE COMPLETED JUST YESTERDAY NIGHT.

Some girls being overly polite isn't solid proof. As far as the transactions at that same mcdonalds, it doesn't make sense. If they work there why would they even need to take money out of your account to pay for their food? If it was the manager like you said, she could just take a double bacon cheese from the store without adding to the mayhem and shitting where she works. It could be a coincidence. Maybe you ate there yesterday and forgot. Or maybe they sold your card info to someone they know, that then came back and paid for their food there. I dunno, but right now all you have is some suspicions based on tone and politeness. I don't think it would be worth the trouble to spend more money on gas getting surveillance tapes, but if it bothers you this much there's not much else you can do besides that or drop it, and go to burger king from now on.
