those stones are awesome! i don't believe in the devil so i don't care who's work it is. i hope it stays around so people in the future will wonder about them or learn about them in history classes. its a tool for astronomy and its like the rosetta stone but with 8 languages instead of 3. sweet.

i subscribe to a different brand of snake oil.
and yes, astronomical tool for low tech civilization to use as a planting and calfing etc, tool.
and guidelines to not screw up so bad this time, if you are the survivor of our crash.
nothing one world order or devilish about it, just an investment in our future in case this civilization takes the old Maya plunge and we leave some descendants wandering and wondering in the ruins.

The whole "mystery" aspect of the guide stones doesn't make any sense. I mean clearly someone owns the land they were built on. It reeks of drummed up tourist attracting hippie bullshit to me.

Someone owns it.
If you want to find out about an interesting piece of architecture, you find out who owns the property it's built on. It's not like this thing was randomly discovered in the middle of a state park or something. It's on private land.

if you read the articles then it would be obvious that the mystery has nothing to do with who owns the property (which the city does, so there ya go...) or how it was built or any of that. the mystery is about whatever organization ordered it to be built and for what purpose.

I agree that the location is likely significant, but the land was still purchased from a property owner who knows nothing and then ownership given to the city. So knowing who owns the property and that someone did own the property doesn't unveil any of the specific mystery. Of course it wasn't 'discovered' randomly it was a project that people knew about while it was happening.
I'm just trying to convince blewmeanie how the mystery makes sense, because it does, even though i agree that "it reeks of drummed up tourist attracting hippie bullshit."

it only reeks of that if the ppl who set it up and then abandoned it, eschewing all contact except one local who swore secrecy, and apparently never made a dime past the original business agreement - and took the details which might have pumped it for the "tourist" market, to his grave....did it and never cared if it had any effect
neither the ppl who owned the land then, nor the ppl who own it now, or the ppl who cut the stone and placed it, or the mysterious ppl who set it up and paid for it to begin with - appear to be in a position to directly make money off of it.
if it is a community wide effort to build tourism, it seems extraordinarily longlived for minimal benefit.
i mean it's not on the biglist of spooky sites (tm)
the conspiracy theory seems to lack local interest and real money to maintain it for such a long time.

to make it more requires us to abandon occam's razor. google it. sigh.
in short it means if you hear hoof beats in central park in New York City, you think of ppl riding horses instead of zebras, because the most obvious scenario is most likely.
it doesn't meant the New York City Zoo didn't have a prison break; it just means that is less likely.

i never said it wasn't this. but, the city is still benefitting from it and that is no mistake. whoever wanted this monument wanted it to be a tourist attraction so the city would have reason to protect it. so what?
