Playlist - sort by track number. Should be simple, right? RIGHT?
    #11506219 - 11/22/09 08:39 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

I'm about to have a brain aneurysm.  Why won't the various media players I'm trying to use sort albums by track number?  VLC doesn't even have the option to do it and will not do it, even though I can right click on a track in the VLC playlist and click 'info' and it displays "Track number/position in set" as 6 for instance(which is correct) even though it's the second position in the playlist.  And rearranging tracks in VLC is such a pain in the neck due to the file tree collapsing every time you try to reposition a file that it's just unusablek, and I shouldn't have to do that anyway.

I can't use Media Player (error:"Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled") and Media Player Classic has the same problem - will not sort tracks in correct order, by track number.

Winamp will not work on my computer(crashes every time I opemn it, tried uninstalling/reinstalling and it's a piece of shit anyway in my experience.

Don't use iTunes or any product with an "i" in front of it.

Someone please tell me the solution.  I'm about to break something.  I can look at the properties in Windows of any of these album tracks - Summary - Advanced, and it shows the correct track number.  So why won't any of these media players sort them properly?  Just ridiculous.

use foobar2000.

i believe if you sort by album it automatically then sorts by track number within that album.

i only use vlc for video. theres much better audio applications out there.

It still loads tracks out of order but with a single click right on the playlist view I can correct the order.  I can live with that.

I dig the visualizations too.  Thanks!

Songbird, Mozilla's media player, it does what you want and much more!

Unfortunately its a resource hog.

+1 for foobar. Itunes destroyed my music file system. Winamp is just a piece of crap and nothing else out there that Ive found yet is worth bothering with
