Drug dealer spared jail after turning life around....[UK]
    #11464455 - 11/16/09 01:45 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

November 16th, 2009 - This is Lincolnshire

A reformed drug dealer from Lincoln was spared jail by a judge after staying out of trouble for six months.

Michael Burley, 26, was arrested twice in six weeks after police found a variety of drugs including cannabis and cocaine at his rented home in Milton Street, Lincoln.

Lincoln Crown Court heard Burley confessed "It's all mine" when officers carried out the first raid in May last year.

During the search police found lumps of cannabis and cocaine in the living room and a block of amphetamine paste valued at £166 in the freezer. A number of LSD tabs and tablets of the heroin substitute drug subutex were also discovered in the property.

Andrew Scott, prosecuting, said the drugs had a street value of around £500. Police also found £275 cash together with more than £3,500 worth of jewellery and a 42-inch high definition flat screen television.

Burley, who was on income support benefit of £132 a fortnight at the time, had also bought a Yamaha motorcycle paying £2,400 in cash.

He was released on police bail but the following month his home was searched again. This time 9.71g of ketamine was found in a zip-up sealed bag along with 80 subutex tablets and a small amount of cannabis.

Burley, 26, now of Cedar Avenue, Lincoln, admitted two charges of possessing drugs with intent to supply and four charges of illegal possession of drugs as a result of the first raid on May 20, 2008.

He also admitted two charges of possessing drugs with intent to supply and one charge of illegal possession in the second raid on June 26 last year.

Graham Huston, mitigating, said Burley had stayed out of trouble after sentence was deferred on him for six months to see if he could turn his life around.

Sentencing Burely to 120 hours community punishment Judge Michael Heath told him: "Back in May I deferred sentence on you because I felt there was a chance you could turn your life around and you have done so.

"I will keep to my side of the bargain and not send you to prison. Given the progress you have made I'm confident it will not come to that."
