Sigh. It started innocently enough. I liked the Grateful Dead. At first we ate only a little mushroom, and listened to the music. Calling them boomers though was popular back then. I mean, everybody was doing it. So I did too. Soon though, I completely forgot that they were even a fungi. Sometimes at dinner, in between bites of canned spinach that made me dry heave, I would nervously start chattering about 'boomers'.
It has been heard for me, but one day I may finally succeed. I have learned to live with the shame. That is not to say however, that I want to have the shame. I itch to habitually call them 'mushrooms', but for now, I must continue to struggle. Pray for me. Pray that I too can one day refer to a mushroom as a 'big fat woody 'shroom' instead of by some colloquial jargon that provides imagery of fire crackers.
