OLATHE, Kan., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Kansas is moving to outlaw herb mixes laced with two synthetic cannabinoids that mimic the effects of marijuana, a lawmaker says.
State Rep. Peggy Mast, a Republican from Emporia, Kan., said the product, called K2, needs to be controlled, The Kansas City (Mo.) Star reported Wednesday.
"I would be very happy to sponsor a bill to make this illegal," said Mast, who was also instrumental in passing laws that banned the hallucinogenic plants jimson weed and salvia divinorum.
"It is new on the scene here," Johnson County, Kan., Sheriff's Deputy Tom Erickson told the Star. "It's just been a few weeks since we found out it was being sold locally."
Another deputy said he's concerned that teens and parents may think that because K2's synthetic cannabis is legal, it must be safe.
But the cannabinoids' inventor, Clemson University chemistry Professor John Huffman, told the newspaper the ingredients may be more harmful than actual marijuana, saying his research has suggested the compounds likely break down in the body into carcinogens.

I've smoked k2 blends and never gotten much effect.
I assumed they didn't have any cannabinoids.

this does not suprise me that kansas would be doing this, i live in kansas and it sucks cops around here are more crooked than the criminals.

In a free society, the presumption must be that people can smoke, snort, eat or inject whatever they wish, so long as they do not harm others. The burden of proof should rest on those who would ban marijuana, not those who want it legal. That burden has never been met.

QFT. My friend who lives in kc got busted with weed, the cops confiscated it and when he received the charges it was about 2 ounces short.  Of course he didn't complain but sucks to know some cops are smoking nug that they stole from him.

I didn't think there was anything still being sold in the US with synthetic cannabinoids in it.

i know a few places to get the "good" blends...
but about these dickheads i think these people are just banning anything that can be smoked just so they feel good about themselves..
they need a real job.

omg im getting sick of this place i hate living here i dont know why i thought i could go to college here instead of in cali where i was before, Kansas is so sad and does not surprise me that they would do this Kansas is and always will be behind they will never understand
