this is more of a question about amanita pantherina then an identification. i used to work at a golf course and i saw these mushrooms growing around the base of pine trees, but since they werent red like the alice in wonderland shrooms i figured they were albino or the wrong shroom. well when i was on a vendors website, and saw amanita pantherina mushrooms that look like this but when i google the amanita pantherina, i get pictures like so back to the golf course, the mushrooms look like the first picture. are they legit amanita pantherinas? or do they need to have dark spotted caps? i live in NE ohio, would that change how they look? they do grow from the base of pines and it was during aug, sep, and oct that i worked there. i was hoping to find out if they were active, i dont wanna die from these haha...seriously

Most of the ones I've seen look more like your second picture. But I know that they can range from pretty light to dark brown, so it's hard to say exactly. Could be A.muscaria var alba, or A.gemmata, or A.phalloides. Or some other Amanita I'm not familiar with.
The collar around the base bulb will give you a good clue.
I would suggest posting some detailed pictures here on this site before you decide to consume anything you find. Especially in the Amanita family!

Hell.. Even if they were A.pantherina of some kind, I still wouldn't eat them anyway (but to each their own )

Your mushrooms might be Amanita multisquamosa.
Mushrooms in the Amanita pantherina group have drugs in them, but not good ones. They are almost never used recreationally. People who experiment with them end up with lots of fucked up stories, none of them pleasant.
If you want to try psychoactive mushrooms, get the psilocybin variety.
