One Big Blue Oyster

So.. I spawned directly to this bag of saw dust a while back. It is the saw dust from a saltwater pier pylon I had talked about using before. Anyway, the bag fully colonized, and I just popped some holes in it like I do the logs. Only one spot pinned, with like 4 pins. Of the four pins, only one is growing. The one is HUGE right now, I am going to let it keep going, but I think it's going to break itself off soon.

Wooo...Dayuuum....Stupendous
great find Herbal ....now if you could somehow prop it up or support it to keep from breaking off from that narrow base ????
maybe you could rival some of those Stropharia Rus specimens?..that 's enough to eat with 2 slices of fancy whole wheat bread with veggie sprouts. thx you for sharing this specimen , Imorph
Happy Halloween

lol.. thanks guys
Even my girl, who could care less about mushrooms, said "your going to clone that, right" .. I don't even think she knows what it means..lol
But, yes I am. I happen to have a sleeve of dishes I poured recently, so I will grow out a few pieces.

Where did you get your spawn/culture?
Im wondering if you have a commercial strain, if you do not, it might help with the amount.
Also, it looks a bit dry(environment), maybe that's why you only got one hole that pinned.
Glad to see that stuff colonize, It sure would have been a wasted effort if it didn't.

The culture is from fungi.com. the bag is actually very wet, still is.. but it has been fruiting on my kitchen counter, so the fruit itself has been in 73f @ 57%rh, no misting. I have 3 dinner plates stacked holding it up right now. I should say, that same culture was also spawned to 4 logs.. all of which pinned awesomely. All of those fruits topped out at about 2-3" caps, but in nice clusters. This one will be coming down tomorrow.
I should add, I am happy that sawdust did workout.. I still have a few hundred pounds of it in the garage .. very slow colonizing as a straight spawn/bulk.. next I will spawn to the dust from WBS, and add some other things to it, so it's not so dense.

I wasn't saying the substrate was dry, I was saying the environment that you are fruiting it in was dry. the dried edges of the mushroom tipped me off on that. Get it in a more moist environment and you'll get more pins, and thus more fruits.
I don't know how good Paul Stamets Oyster cultures are (I have no experience with them)But I would assume they should be good.

I will tell you his Pinks are outrageous.. the Pearls sucked for me, and the Blues are in between.. I am waiting on a back-ordered Yellow/Golden culture right now.. we'll see.
I have one spawn bag of Blue left, I will use it up.. then switching to straight Pinks since they love the environment so much (that I have).
The culture syringes were packed tight with thick myc, in some real dark gold colored solution.. After a week, some Pinks were fruiting in the syringe.. in an air pocket.
