GORNYHUY'S NERDY ASS BULK SUBSTRATE CALCULATOR
I was trying to figure out ratios of goodies to put in a monotub, so I started excelling it, and entering different suggested 'recipes' from some of the many trusted cultivators at shroomery.
The result is an excel file that takes the size of your tub, the desired depth of substrate, and the percentage you want for the major ingredients, and tells you exactly how much of each ingredient to include so that you can hit your "perfect substrate depth" with your "perfect recipe".
I'm pretty confident about the calculations, but if anyone finds any errors, please let me know.

neat... There are a couple other spawn calculators floating around here..
But, there may be some problems..
When figuring out your substrate the total volume of the tub doesn't make a difference.
What you need is the area of the substrate multiplied by the desired depth of the substrate. That will give you the total volume of substrate you need. The rest of the space in the container is your growing environment..
Different model containers can vary in size, even if they have the same total volume. So, basing a substrate calculation on the total volume of the container will not be as accurate.

The desired substrate depth divided by the total tub depth gives you the percentage of volume the substrate will take up, which then gives you the total volume of substrate you have to work with.
substrate volume=(substratedepth/tubdepth)*totaltubvolume
Since the 2D area of the tub is the same as the substrate, its a simple ratio of substrate depth to tub depth.

Damn! Should have searched before nerding it up...
I like having it break down each ingredient for me though. I guess I should have assumed it would have been done a dozen times. This place is INSANE!!!!

I see what your saying. but all of my tubs have sloped sides, wouldn't this effect the substrate volume using that method instead of LxWxD of substrate?
I'm sure it works fine, it just got me thinking of all the variables that could be possible out there..
yea, I like how yours has percentages you can enter for substrate ingredients.
looking at a container sticker I have here, the tub says 27gallon/102 liter 29.12" x 20.5" x 15"; that equals 8954.4 cubic inches which equals 146.736 Liters... 
I just think the more automated variables there is on the total volume calculation, the more prone to error.
but then again, we really don't need to be 100% accurate on substrate calculations anyhow.

Yep, you are absolutely right. My tubs hav very little slope to the sides, so I figured it was an approximation that wouldn't cause much error.
It should be relatively easy to add a total volume of tub vs. total volume of desired substrate calculation to get it 100% accurate. I'll put that version is a second worksheet tab and update the file when I get a chance.

Yeah, I think even with sloped sides this will get you pretty damn close. I'm thinking the expansion of coir and water volume and other factors would cause more errors than anything else.
Most people would see those fractional pints and just round to the nearest convenient pint volume anyway.
