Synesthesia effects from hashish?

Fitz Hugh Ludlow reported from his own experience after eating large amounts of hashish(published in The Hashish Eater 1857). Before hand he had only taken small amounts and had no effects then ate a substantial amount. He is said to have had experienced synesthesia effects from the drug. Another writer Charles Baudelaire also said to have this effect from hashish. Is it possible at extreme amounts that this could have been true or was there another drug possibly administered in their concoctions with out knowing it? Possibly just extreme paranoia caused these reactions? Maybe someone else has had these effects themselves? I'm highly interested in this.

hmm.... did he eat it in fat or alcohol? thc is soluble in oil and alcohol, so eating it plain doesn't do anything.
maybe he ate it plain but the thc didn't do anything, and he got high off of a minor constituent chemical that is water soluble that we don't know about yet?
sorry, ahaha. i'm tired, but it could be entirely possible

EDIT: I'm talking about hashish here to specify not straight marijuana
it doesn't specify in the book I'm reading, Understanding Marijuana which cites this experience from his(Ludlow) book.

how do you think fats and oils get digested then?
the body has mechanisms to digest them, uses emulsifiers and stuff secreted from the liver etc.

I believe he thought I was talking about him eating cannabis not hashish.

doesn't thc have to be combined into the oil for it to pass the colon barrier? as in, the bioavailability is 0-1% unless it's in conjunction with fat. which is 100% bioavailable.
i'm confused..... by hashish do you mean something completely non-marijuana related?

ah, i thought eating was fine, just extracting it for cooking you need to cook in oil or whatever.
people have cannabis tea sometimes (hot water melts it, but THC still floats on the water)
ill have to test this one.

Oh, and OP, i think you are confused. Hashish is compressed trichomes from cannabis buds, or other resinous parts of the plant. So, in effect, same drug, just different form.

I know it's the same drug.

People in Ludlow's time routinely ingested massive doses of hashish, so that it produced intense hallucinations and profoundly altered perception, similar to the classic psychedelics. It would sometimes last days at a time, so yes, it is very possible to experience synesthesia from large doses of thc.
Check out the book itself, its really interesting. Here

i read somewhere where a scientist ingested 20 grams of pure thc oil to see the effects. he reported very confused thoughts, synesthesia, and during his peak, the inability to communicate properly.
i don't remember if he ate, smoked, or injected it. i wish i could find it....
