Teen suspected of attacking Desert Hot Springs police officers faces hearing today

An 18-year-old man shot by Desert Hot Springs police after allegedly attacking officers is scheduled to appear in court today for a hearing that will determine if he will stand trial.
Travis Jonsrud, 18, who was shot in the head, chest and leg Feb. 25, faces two counts of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury on a peace officer.
Jonsrud is set to appear in court today for a preliminary hearing, which will determine whether there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.
He is accused of walking through traffic following an accident on the night of Feb. 25 near Palm Drive and Hacienda Avenue, according to a declaration in support of an arrest warrant.
Responding officers ordered Jonsrud to sit down and hand over a cell phone he was holding, but the teen jumped up without warning and attacked the officers, according to Detective Kenneth Patterson, who prepared the declaration.
Jonsrud allegedly told an officer he was "under the influence of PCP," Patterson wrote.
Three other officers tried to take Jonsrud into custody, twice using a stun gun, but he continued to beat the officers and pushed one of them with "superhuman" strength, according to Patterson.
The man rushed toward one of the officers who, "fearing for his life and that of his officers, discharged his weapon, striking Jonsrud unknown times," Patterson said. Another officer fired on Jonsrud.
The officers handcuffed the critically wounded Jonsrud, who was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center. One of the officers was treated for contusions and bruises to his head and face.
Dale Galipo, the suspect's attorney, has said Jonsrud was not on the hallucinogenic drug PCP, as officers have alleged.

This kid is my hero. Im finding out some info on him so i can write him a letter giving him my support. HOW THE FUCK IS IT OKAY TO SHOOT SOMEONE WHEN THEY DONT HAVE A GODDAMMED WEAPON! So sad. The only way justice would have prevailed is if this kid killed all these cops.

But failing to kill if you pull the trigger, meh. And a head shot is hard, especially with a pistol. Go for the chest.
