Indoor Plant Ideas?

Hey everyone. Well pretty much i would like to get some good looking plants or just something to make my room nicer and greener.
Anyways I remember seeing a thread about which plants are very good for you or something along those lines(cant find it anymore). Im gonna hit up some stores and get some for my room but I really dont know what to get. Should I just go with what looks good or do you guys have any ideas of nice indoor plants?
Im new to anything plant related really but Ill be around to water and whatnot. Was wondering if there are any easy to grow plants for indoors or if I should get ones that are already grown or whatever. thanks

Aloe is very easy to maintain and can be very beneficial to have around when you get burned. Here are some of my plants, I have just started to really get into indoor houseplants but I am thoroughly enjoying it and having some success. Not difficult at all.
This is a palm I just replanted today that I rescued...

My very happy Christmas cactus

One of my African violets... I am trying to get used to these delicate creatures

Another palm, some succulent that blooms yellow, a Jade plant and another African violet

My happy aloe

This is another palm I rescued which is still pretty rough looking but is starting to show new growth which looks very promising and let's me know I have a happy plant.

Here is the new growth on the palm above

My other Christmas cactus

I think I am officially addicted to houseplants and I am working on an outdoor garden too!
Good luck on your houseplant escapade and keep us posted on your success!

damn those are tight... i would ask if they are hard to replant but i am sure anything would be hard without correct knowledge or whatever... so did you plant seeds or whatever and grow them or mostly you just dug them out roots and all and repotted them?

I purchased most of them at the store or greenhouse and repotted them. The most important thing is knowing what type of soil the particular plant needs and transplanting them before they become root bound and of course knowing how often they need to be watered. The palms don't like any direct sunlight so you have to keep them away from windows. Their leaves will get burned if they are in too much light. Just go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get an indoor plant. Be sure to read the little card that is with it to see what kind of growing conditions it requires. Get a pot with a drain hole in the bottom and a matching saucer to catch the excess water. Some pots have the saucer attached. I always put a paper towel over the hole to keep the soil from coming out and then a thin layer of rocks across the bottom of the pot to give it sufficient drainage. If you decide on a palm I suggest getting the soil specifically made for palm and cacti. You can find it with the other potting soil.
Oh and when I say I rescued the plant I mean someone gave it to me that wasn't treating it properly so I could try and revive it.

you should see my room back home in the off season.
I've got like half of it taken up with cacti and various plants (including some of my favorite hot peppers, but white flies got on them and they won't go away! )

Why not grow some weed too along with all these other fine suggestions? Instead of going complete pro and hydro, just do it 'normally'. Maryjane really makes a nice scent in the room, whether it's burning or not.

Nice plants funguyfan!
my african violet isn't blooming right now either...
i have a lot of plants scattered around my place, but here's a picture of the plants i have in my kitchen.

to the OP,
i'd recommend the snake plant, pothos, peace lily, or some sort of dracaena to get started. they seem to be some of the easiest indoor plants to care for.. from my experience anyway..
i only started with a couple plants, but it ended up turning into an unexpected hobby. i love caring for my plants now... the health benefits are just an added bonus.
have fun.

I have a lemon geranium in a window of my apartment. It's really easy to maintain, and it's getting huge! It smells extremely good, very fresh. It's a perfect house plant.
