Free Marc Emery: Rally For The Prince of Pot - Saturday, September 19, 2009
y Cannabis Culture - Tuesday, July 21 2009 TAGS: CC MAGAZINE FEATURE ARTICLES HEADLINE NEWS MARC EMERY PROTEST WORLDWIDE RALLY FOR THE PRINCE OF POT CANNABIS CULTURE - Join 'The Worldwide Rally For The Prince of Pot', and show your support for Marc Emery, the marijuana activist who is going to jail in the United States for FIVE YEARS for selling marijuana seeds and funding the cannabis movement.
Marc is expected to be sentenced in the Seattle Federal Court of Ricardo Martinez on or around Monday, September 28. The plea agreement is for a 5-year sentence in US Federal Prison. The global rallies in support of Marc will be on Saturday, September 19th -- join the Facebook page!
Marc Emery is a well-known activist, Vancouver retail store owner, and editor of Cannabis Culture Magazine. He was raided by Canadian police and the US DEA on July 29th, 2005, and arrested for selling marijuana seeds over the Internet.
On September 10th 2005, over 40 demonstrations were held around the world to protest Marc's arrest for extradition to the United States. Locations included Moscow, Prague, Wellington, Sydney, Mexico City, Paris, and London.
Marc Emery, Cannabis Culture and WhyProhibtion.ca are calling for worldwide protests once again to bring attention to his cause and situation.
In Canada, Marc would like his supporters from every community in the country to hold a rally at their local Government of Canada building. The government of Canada is responsible for the marijuana prohibition, as well as signing off on Marc's extradition. We are hoping for organizers to come forward to host major rallies in support of Marc at US consulates in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, and the US Embassy in Ottawa. (Vancouver, BC Location: Vancouver Art Gallery at 750 Hornby Street from 2pm-5pm)
In the United States, we hope for a rally in all 50 States in as many cities and towns at Canadian Consulates, local courthouses, DEA offices, Justice Department offices, or a main intersections for maximum visibility to your community.
Across the globe, we hope for a rally in every country we can find a supporter to lead a rally, wherever on the earth they may be, at Canadian embassies or consulates, courthouses, or main intersections.
Help by planning a rally and organizing with others in their community. Please contact Cannabis Culture (604-689-0590) or Marc and Jeremiahs directly (marc@cannabisculture.com and Jeremiah@cannabisculture.com) if you would like to organize and host the event or if you want to know who to contact in your area.
It's easy to do!

Marc Emery writes:
Pick the place for the rally first. The main courthouse in town is a good place. A busy intersection where you will be seen, or on the sidewalk by any US or Canadian embassy or consulate or a federal building on a main avenue are excellent rally sites. You don't need any permits. Posters & signs should be prepared and the rally should start at 2.00 pm and go to 5 pm. Chants should be developed; like "Free Marc Emery", "No Prison For Pot", "No More Drug War", "Stop the violence, end prohibition", "Register to vote, Win the Right To Toke" and, well, you'll think of many, they are fun. But practice them before hand.
Make your signs legible and clear, check spelling beforehand. People walking with signs while chanting slogans of cannabis liberation is fine for the whole 2 or 3 hours, but you can add speakers every 20 minutes or so to change it up. Campaigning for Ron Paul in 2007, I learned that a sign saying "Google Ron Paul" was very effective in drawing passers-by attention to his videos or philosophy. A sign at each rally saying "Google Marc Emery and his work for freedom" or something like that will be helpful in expanding awareness.
Signs suggestions:
* Free Marc Emery * Google Marc Emery * No Jail For Prince of Pot * Free Anti-Prohibition Activist Marc Emery * Free Cannabis Culture Leader Marc Emery * DEA out of __________ (your country or town here) * End Prohibition * No More Drug War * No Prison For Pot
The purpose of signs is to stir the mind of any passersby who might Google 'Marc Emery', 'Prohibition', or 'Drug War'.
It is important to inform your local media of the rally and its purpose, why you support Marc Emery. Tell them the extradition of a non-violent Canadian to an American prison is WRONG! Address the fact the DEA (US Drug Enforcement Administration) is in your country also, and should be expelled.
One of the under-currents of a worldwide rally, especially with substantial US participation, is to ease the anger many Canadians may feel towards Americans once I am incarcerated. Improperly directed anger will be counter-productive to the cause. If American rally support is significant, Canadians will see Americans as fellow warriors and victims in the drug war. The risk is that there will be a lot of unproductive America-bashing by Canadians after my sentencing and while I am incarcerated. Anger and indignation should be channeled against the drug war that exists everywhere on Earth, and towards the politicians that make these injustices and cruelties happen.
Find out why Marc is cutting a deal with US prosecutors.
Find out more about Marc's fight against extradition at NoExtradition.net.
To help Marc further, all supporters are encouraged to write a polite, sensitive letter to his sentencing judge, Ricardo Martinez, in the federal court in Seattle, pleading for leniency.
Send letters to: Honorable Ricardo S. Martinez U.S. Courthouse 700 Stewart Street Seattle, WA 98101
Find out more about Judge Martinez here: http://depts.washington.edu/civilr/martinez.htm
Send us your Facebook, MySpace, or website pages for the rally in your city (jeremiah@cannabisculture.com) and we will post links to them here.

Rally at the old town plaza Media Coverage:
Prince of Pot wants 420 protests worldwide to back him by Scott Sunde, Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Marc Emery, the "Prince of Pot", certainly thinks like a royal.
He has plans for a grand send-off before he is sentenced in a federal court in Seattle on marijuana charges and, presumably, sent off to prison.
Emery spent years fighting federal prosecutors after his marijuana-seed business in Vancouver, B.C., got him busted by agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in 2005
Earlier this year, he acknowledged that he could fight but not stop extradition. So he will plead guilty.
He took off on a farewell tour. And now he has announced on his MySpace blog that he wants 420 demonstrations around the world on the Saturday before he is sentenced. He expects to be sentenced in October.
Just in case you can't decide what to write on your sign, Emery has provided some suggestions. "Free Marc Emery" is a natural, of course.
Or "Free out/the leader of the cannabis culture, Marc Emery" if you wish.
My favorite: "DEA out of .....(your country or town here)"
Hope his faithful lay off the bong a bit. You'd hate to see Norwegians, Turks or Mexicans walking around with goofy grins and signs that read: "DEA out of your country or town here."
He is also asking that his supporters write "a polite, sensitive letter" to his sentencing judge, U.S. District Court Judge Ricardo Martinez.
(Update: Those more worldly than I am -- and who isn't? -- note that the number 420 is of great significance to pot activists.)

I personally don't like the guy, he's always come across as a man full of his own ego- maybe the continued media coverage naming him 'prince of pot' has gone to his head? For example, his thoughts that his arrest may cause a mass wave of hate and anger directed at the US. Him getting extradited will not have much effect (if any) on the general canadians opinion regarding the US- those that has the us will remain that way, those that do not mind the us will remain that way, and those who like the us will remain that way. If anything, I think this should cause more anger at the Canadian government. The US is just following its own laws (despite being flawed laws), while the Canadian government is ignoring our own laws and instead bending over to what big daddy US wants. That is one of the biggest injustices regarding this case- I'm pretty sure alchohol use is illegal in Saudi Arabia, is my government gonna extradite me for breaking Saudi Arabian law while in Canada?
But.. that being said he is a good figure head for the whole cause. I will be at the US embassy in Toronto that day, lending my voice.

At least mexico is showing some spine, they did just make personal drug use legal. Canadian government, on the other hand, is attempting to implement mandatory sentencing for drug offences.

Canada should be the greater nation in NOT sending its own citizen for a "violation" that is related to a plant and more accurately, seeds from a plant.

Especially since he did not break Canadian law. Seeds remain legal here, and you can still purchase them both online and from stores.

He made money from prohibition, he was selling seeds that were worthless without marijuana prohibition for millions of dollars each year. He's paying the price all drug dealers that get caught pay. Its stupid laws, but its the cost of selling drugs. I feel a lot worse for the drug addicts locked up for years for just possessing drugs, I really don't feel sorry for drug dealers, especially ones that were clocking millions. He should be happy they aren't smoking him, 5 years for all the money he made doesn't sound like a bad deal at all.

The thing is, what he did was completely within Canadian law- this makes him as much of a drug dealer as a pharmacist would be. Is that what you mean by drug dealer, someone who 'deals in drug' because than I guess that is correct. If you are implying that he was a criminal and justice is finally catching up to him than I would need to disagree.
The reason he is being arrested is for selling seeds to US residents, where marijuana seeds are illegal. The Canadian government is not charging Marc, these charges are coming from the US. As far as Canadian law is concerned he is not guilty of any crime (except use/possesion of marijuana). So how is it right for a citizen to be charged for something that is not illegal in their own country, by an outside country? There are many much more draconian laws in existence in this world- would it be as acceptable say if Saudi Arabians came to Canada and purchases/imbibed in alchohol and then brought some back to Saudi Arabia, and upon being discovered the SA govn't decides to charge the Canadians who make and sell the alchohol, and than the Canadian government agrees and sends you over to SA to prison?

Too often, we as people give in to bullies. They are the people who are either physically bigger than us, dress better than us, have more money than us, have more power than us, etc.
It's no different with countries which are run by guess who? BULLIES.
The only type of person who could ask for a person from another country because of plant seeds is a bully. He's a control freak who's had an artificially successful life. He's a sad, poor boy underneath the $200 suit. And his crying mommie is always on his mind.

Marc seemed pretty cool on national geographic explorer. It sucks that he's going to have to do time. He shoulda buried money in a watertight container. I would have dipped before facing that type of justice. Fuck Canadian bureaucrats (and america's)! Fuck America's draconian laws on morality! If those towel headed bastards can hide like that then why can't a cool head like emery find some sanctuary. He did sell alot of seeds!

The single most coherent and cogent argument/comparison I've seen here is Shivas.Wisdoms point about Saudi Arabia and alcohol.
Fapjack.... should we turn Canadian pharmacists who mail Tylenol3 to American clients over to American authorities? If not, why not. If so, why?

I agree- despite how I feel about him personally I greatly support the cause that he is a figurehead to, and as I said I will be supporting him on the 19th.
And unfortunately, Canada has never had legalized marijuana. It is true that the US opposed our medical marijuana laws, and we almost had personal amounts decriminalized before the US stepped in but that is all. The US is definitely a large reason the world has many of the anti-drug laws that we see today though- I wish Canada would stand up a little, but especially the government we have now will never do that. They did not ask for the return of Omar Khadr (a Canadian citizen) from Guantanamo Bay even after every other developed country had reclaimed their citizens.
Cross your fingers, maybe an election will be forced this Fall and a better government will be elected.
