no I wouldn't be too happy, aren't you getting better yields from your pf tek cakes?

I would make a mix of cakes and bulk, if I were getting results like that.  Perhaps your substrate depth was a little too thin?

Yeah it might be to thin. It's only a total of 4 pints of sub. I was getting that much off of 1 pf-tek cake. I'm starting to think bulk may be overrated. But most likely I'm just doing something wrong.

oh hell no bud, I seem to be doing much better with bulk.  Today I pulled another 200g's wet from my one remaining mono.  It seems to be doing much better than the other one, bigger size, more consistant pinset.  That other one was a total grab bag of genetics, this one seems to be MUCH better.  That aside, I should be ready to roll with another flush shortly   I would peg the total wet for this flush out of that bin at 500g's.  From my own experience it's less effort than cakes, considering I'll definitely be getting roughly 1500g's wet from one mono, I'm quite happy now I've got more shrooms than I can handle eating (I've eaten so much so far that I'm taking a month long break, I'm at a week so far in the break).

I plan on doing more cakes, I think I should be-able to do 100 jars soon and get those going but I also plan on doing work with agar to increase that yield and make things more consistant.  I've got 11 syringes so far, they are super super dark and I'll have to dilute them, plus many more (like 7-8) good sized caps printing.

At this stage in my plans I'm about ready to do away with the 50 lc syringes that I've got just to make space for spore syringes, since I know I should be-able to fill pretty much all of them up with the total amount of spore syringes (plus have a few clean spares kicking around), so my first goal is a total success:

Create a degree of self-sustainability that will ensure that I don't have to spend shit all anymore on spore syringes.  This bulk grow assured me of that, and got me close to 2 lb's wet in a single flush.

Not bad for multi-spore huh?  Now I have to spend a bit of time carefully planning out phase 2, which'll result in a 4-fold increase in capacity, and see to it that I've got some ok genetics to work with.

Phase 3 is where I plan to up the capacity even more, and where I plan on developing my own strain.  I'll never have to buy shrooms again I'll probably end up having a lifetime supply of blue honey with my plans and that to me is a suitable reward, but the real gold here is I can have my own creation, my own strain, it'll be a couple of years to complete this project and take a bit of cash here and there, but so far as far as I'm concerned my investment has paid for itself and it's time for me to stop bumming around home and arrange another cash investment.  Definitely going to buy some basic tools for around the house and parts to adjust the bins to put to use a cool mist and hepa filtered air with a microcontroller, as well as a relay and some simple led lighting.

I plan on doing a few things here, first to improve what I got and get a good supply of master slats in the freezer.  Phase 4 will see me do the process all over again with a couple of different types of mushroom, another interesting cubensis strain such as red-spore, and perhaps penis envy, as well as a pan strain, meanwhile I'll take a shot at getting some azures and see if I can refine my technique to get that working but either way, the goal would be to obtain 2-3 sets of dissimilar strain master slats in order to attempt to create such a hybrid and rather than my own isolate strain of another strain my ultimate goal is to create a perfectly stable hybrid and learn a bit more about genetics along the way.

Trust me on this one, bulk IS the way to go, once you can get this far the doors open up to a whole nother world with this hobby.

I've noticed the aborts like to come along when a couple of biguns have sprouted, that area of the cake is depleated and it begins to be time for another flush, but with the uneven pinset I end up having to wait longer to harvest.  After fruiting the substrate becomes more vulnerable to contamn, while it is rugged before fruiting it just seems to be spent afterwards and needs to recover.  By doing work with agar, and by making the genetics more consistant vs. multispore, one can ensure that GIVEN OPTIMAL CONDITIONS, the pinset is perfectly even and the flushes are well defined, and improve contamn resistance.

My guess is a month or two and I'll have this with my isolates and then it's only a matter of furtherly refining this for a period of time in order to create a new strain that is unique to my efforts.  But either way, with a month or two of hard work, I can have a master slat that contains a sub-strain of which I am happy with for a good christmas harvest.

Anyways you're only doing one tray, if you're in this to trip out every once in a while, make a few more trays and you're set.  If you have other motivations (such as making your own strain) you might have to go bigger.  Keep it up you might have to try out a couple of spore syringes to get the right mixture of genetics in there.  As well, an interesting experiment here, buy two strains, can make a mixed syringe of 2 cc's of each, this way you could have an interesting grab bag of unique and hybridized cubes.  Also note that mixing genetics is favorable in the animal kingdom, it's similar to the notion with marijuana where you can get "hybrid vigor" and thus have the opportunity of finding what you want.  Remember genetics is 90% of the equation, because if you don't have desireable genetics then it doesn't really matter what you do for the remaining 10%, you could have everything perfect and still get squat.  You could have done things perfectly and not even know it because you're still stuck in the phase where you are learning and it's easier to blame yourself than it is to blame the genetics which you are working with.

Thanx for you input man. It might be genetics. I have only bought one syringe in my life and that was Ecuador from sporeworks. Every grow since then has been from the resulting spores, and I have always had many many huge fruits. Thats why this is such a letdown for me.

hmmm going from huge to small?  Yeah it still might be your strain preferring cakes... bulk is different, I would play around till you get the results you want and don't rule out genetics as certain strains can tend to be acclimated to certain substrates.

Yeah, when you get that strain isolated, let me know I'd sure like a print.

that can definitely be arranged, I'll be mailing out a bunch just to thank the community.  But definitely keep in touch once I'm ready to mail stuff out you'll be on that list if you're still kicking around.  No hoops to jump through, no stupid contests, etc... just the straight up goods...

OK I harvested my first flush. It was pathetic. Maybe 1/2 oz dry. I have started 25 full pint rubbermaid containers for my next grow.

The most amazing thing to me is. Look at that mushie growing out of my shot glass cake.

I wonder why the shroom on the little cake is such a different color than the ones in the bulk sub?

Anyone got any ideas? It was form the same syringe/sporeprint as the other ones.

Also worth mentioning the veil on the light colored on has torn already, with the cap still way more closed than the other ones when they break.

Whats going on here?

I think that most of your disappointment stems (ha, ha), from using multi-spore. This most likely explains the color difference as well.
Don't be discouraged, you know you will always be trying different techniques and ideas. Some will not do so well and some will kick some serious ass!
I think you need to start using Agar Agar. Then you can customize your sub-strains. More work = more rewards.

:goodluck: Bra!

I have searched the grocery store for agar and cant find it. I cant find petri dishes either. Any ideas other than ordering online?

cool never thought to look at a hobby shop. The agar pic helps to, I thought agar came in these little bricks like butter.

Do u need a pc to do agar?

I still haven't gotten one.

As far as I know you most def need a pc to do agar work.

Its a pretty sterile process.

Ya I lookd for agar in the brick and there is none around here so I had to have a vietnamese friend go in and find me some
