Clone for contam resistance?

I'm pretty new at working with agar and since most of the agar threads I've followed were in advanced myc, I posted here. Move if appropriate.
My friend attemtped to grow on coir some time back and both of his casings contamed with heavy trich. When we went to throw them out, I noticed one tiny side pin had managed it's way through what must have been an epic battle against the trich.
So I plucked the little hero from what would have been its grave, washed it in iodine and tossed it in a "grocery-store-agar-tek" half pint jar. The one variance from the tek is that I use really fine brown rice flour since I had no potato flakes. Now, a couple of weeks later, there has been an extremely rhizo explosion of mic from this pin. It actually grew outward in what looks like waves from the center of the jar. It's almost completely covered the bottom of the jar.
So on to my question: Is it possible that this clone will be particularly contam resistant since it managed its way through all that heavy trich? I would like to think so.

I think you might be able to get your spores to become more bacteria resistant. Trich is another spore. Tiny little bastard too. Can not really protect from an organism that eats it.
If you do not want contams in your casing then you better pasturize. THen I stick another layer of Verm over the casing just in case.

It's a one in a million chance, but you never know. Grow out the sample, see how it does.

Well now, that's an interesting thought! As long as you don't go thinking you can get some super shroom that will resist contams completely as some of these bio-engineers are trying to do. It just aint natural
test it out, it sounds pretty damn robust

from the sounds of it, it sounds like that pin's genetics were just able to outgrow the trich seeing as how it is very rhizo in which case you got a good pheno, albeit perhaps not contam resistant. what strain may i ask?

You'd be pretty lucky to get what you're looking for. Mycelium sometimes fruits when fighting contams, I've seen it happen quite a few times and it's probably what happened. Either way, hope for the best!
