Trich on coir/coffee grounds

I recently started adding coffee grounds to my coir at about 10% and noticed a lot quicker growth however almost half of my trays have been getting trich. The trich shows up normally after about 10-14 days colonizing when it's only a couple days from being 100% colonized. My theory is that I didn't squeeze enough moisture out of the substrate because a lot of water accumulates on the top of the substrate. The only part that gets trich is the top of the substrate were the standing water is the rest is pretty much just solid mycelium by the time it contams. I didn't really seem to have this problem before I started using coffee grounds so I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what I could possibly do about it. If your substrate is to wet I figured it would have slow growth from the beginning but mine grow real fast till the last 5 or 10% of colonization when they get trich. I'd just like other opinions because colonized mycelium is supposed to be pretty resistant to contams I thought so if the excess water is my problem then I can feel better that I wont make that mistake again, otherwise I don't even know what to do.

? are you sterilizing you're grounds or just pasteurizing?? I've used em for a long time just pasteurized and have not had any problems..maybe you need to up you're pasteurization time to make sure everything that could contam will not!! That's really a tough question to answer!!! I know I was not much help...e

I mix my grinds with Hpoo and coco-coir(real coconut husks and chunks. (Called Bed a Beast) Pet Smart!! and pasteurize both at the same time...I don't think I use any one's TEK I pasteurize at 170 deg. F for about 2 hours...everything has always been right..maybe you need to figure out were the trich. spores are at!! maybe place you're tubs somewhere else while they colonize..I've had trich. before but it's only showed it's ugly head around flush #3..I do wish you Luck.........e

Coffee grinds will grow trich faster than you can blink an eye. It's good mycelium food though, and that's also why trich loves it. The droplets of water prevent the mycelium from colonizing that spot, which may be why the trich seizes the opportunity.
Causes could be due to incubating at above room temperature, which causes excessive metabolites. Colonize at room temperature. If moisture forms on the surface, take the corner of a clean paper towel and you can soak it up and remove the excess moisture every couple of days. This should help cure the problem.
Make sure you're pasteurizing at 140F to 160F for an hour.(60C t 70C). Many growers using coir simply dump hot water on it to hydrate the block and call it good. While that's fine for coir itself, it's insufficient for coffee grinds. RR

Would it be worthwhile to fully pc sterilize the grounds prior to adding to the rest of the substrate? If so, should the grounds be added to the other ingredients prior to or after their pasteurization?
