Hey I'll be doing a 5 week long hike in Northern Spain next month and hope to gather some shrooms along the way. How difficult is it to find some during the period of April-May? I read that there are a ton of cows along the way, so I'm guessing its best to look around cow turds in wetter areas? Any tips are appreciated...

Are you doing the camino de santiago?!
Anyways, I have had NO luck find finding mushies anywhere Spain, I have looked in many different regions... Maybe once I found a semilanceata...anyways here's a list of Spainish shrooms by region. Perhaps you might find some subbs and Psilocybe gallaeciae up in galicia. I have heard that copes only grow along the mediterranian sea.

Good to see that you are watching this thread. When does your season start? I assume it must go almost all year, some of those mushrooms look like cold fruiters and others warm fruiters.
What about the cool ones like P. hispanica and P. gallaeciae, which temps do those ones like?
I hope this year you keep looking until you find them. You have thousands of loyal readers counting on you, don't let us down!
There must be really cool Amanitas and Boletus and morels in Spain too. If you come across anything like this please make a thread about it!
Its really good that we have an agent in Spain.

i'm going back to Spain on sunday, i was there a few months back and went out near Girona in catalunya, we found some interesting mushrooms but i never got around to posting about it... no actives though...
i'll take a look if i've got the pics with me!
but all in all i got the impression that it's much drier then i imagined and it would not be too easy to locate anything :shurg:

Yes I'll be doing the Camino de Santiago. That's really too bad about not finding any in Spain. I still plan on keeping my eye out and will upload pics if I come across anything.

bumping this thread, unfortunately no photos but i believe i came across p.hispanica in the pirenies, around 2300M high...
they were growing abundantly out of horse poo looking much like these that upright found

when bruised they didn't show bluing but i'm thinking maybe that's because they were rather dry?
in any case i didn't even consider that they were the real deal because even if i thought they were i wouldn't try to eat them without a proper id... if only i lived close enough to that place!!!
those mountains are the most amazing place i've ever been too... in winter it's all full of snow but now in august everything is GREEN and alive, so much water and amazing fresh air!
upright if you ever go back to the pirenies check this place out, it's some refuge in Tavasscan (a ski lodge) only 12Euro a night! a truly amazing peacefull place...
near one of the peaks there is a lake called El Diablo, the mushrooms were everywhere on the horse dung, and the horses were roaming free, we saw two groups grazing very close to us, they didn't appear to fear us at all.
