Traffic stop yields over four pounds of psilocybin mushrooms

 Laramie – A seizure of just over four pounds of dried psilocybin mushrooms made on Tuesday represents the largest single seizure of psilocybin mushrooms made by the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
The seizure was made during a traffic stop which was conducted on a speeding passenger vehicle traveling on Interstate 80 in Albany County. The stop also resulted in the arrest of the driver, the only occupant, of the vehicle.
The traffic stop was made by a trooper approximately 13 miles west of Laramie late Tuesday morning. The trooper was patrolling Interstate 80 west of Laramie when he observed an eastbound vehicle traveling at 84 mph in a 75 mph zone. Upon contacting the driver the trooper noticed he was very nervous and lacked the answers to some very simple questions.
The trooper requested a drug detecting K-9 to respond from the Albany County Sheriff’s Department. The K-9 alerted on the rental vehicle’s trunk area. When officers opened the trunk they discovered four previously opened cereal boxes. Inside the cereal boxes they discovered the dried psilocybin mushrooms.
The driver, 25 year-old Anthony Devries from Boulder City, Nevada, was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. The charge is a felony and Devries could be facing up to ten years imprisonment and fined up to $10,000 or a combination of both imprisonment and fines.
Hallucinogenic mushrooms such as psilocybin mushrooms are illegal to possess and cultivate. Users usually eat the caps and stems of the mushrooms either fresh or dried. Psilocybin mushrooms can be found in the wild however, the majority of seized mushrooms are cultivated for
illegal sale.
Troopers have requested assistance from Special Agents with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation. It is believed that Devries was coming from Eugene, Oregon, and traveling through the State of Wyoming on his way to a final destination in Chicags. This seized amount of psilocybin mushrooms would have had an approximate street value of $2,633. The case remains under investigation at this time.

Again, people, if you're going to transport large amounts of drugs, do the speed limit, do drive with tail lights out at night, ect.

I just wish I could understand how this is felonious. Non violent male with a non toxic substance.
I feel bad for the guy cause this will stay with him his whole life.
He's basically screwed by what I believe is not a crime at all. He transported non toxic fungi, simple as that. That "crime" hurts no one.

Well they said the guy was coming from eugene oregon. Mushies are only 10-15 an 8th here so I'd imagine 41/oz would be a fair price for that high amount of bulk.

Its no typo. Like blazenn said: its location of the product. $26,330 is outrageous, that's $411 an ounce. The most I've ever dropped an Oz off for is $200.

shrooms normally 100-120 an ounce when buying a single ounce.
four pounds id expect to pay 41$ an ounce or less.

Drug dogs CAN be trained to smell mushrooms, although more then not the drugs used are trained for narcotics. Usually when a dog detects mushrooms they are actually looking for mushrooms with a dog trained specifically for that OR as typical.. the K9 detection call is bullshit.

but it's not uncommon for dogs to pickup on that foul scent and to seek it out, especially if it's trained to do exactly that with other scents..

That is incorrect information. There are sniffing dogs trained to indicate mushrooms.
That was my point though, that it is uncommon, so when they are found by a dog either the agency is specifically looking for them or they are lieing.
Local police station dogs are not typically trained for such items, but there are DEA dogs that can indicate mushrooms, usually they are used in customs or in airport security.
Don't make a claim that dogs can't sniff that without having proper information. Some people take whats said here to heart & false information regarding subjects like this is just dangerous.
