Wilmington | Two men face cocaine-related charges after a drug bust July 30 in the 5100 block of Market Street, according to a report released Tuesday by Deputy Charles Smith of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

A month-long investigation by detectives with the New Hanover County Vice and Narcotics Division led to the seizure of more than one kilogram of cocaine, with a street value of $100,000, Smith said.

Bernardo Medina-Sandoval, 36, and Angel Hernandez-Benitez, 52, both of New Hanover County, were charged with two counts of trafficking cocaine, conspiring to traffic in cocaine, maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for drugs, possession with the intent to sell and deliver and conspiring to sell/deliver cocaine, Smith said. Hernandez-Benitez also had an out-of-state warrant for drug-related activity, Smith said. Both men remain in custody at the New Hanover County jail.

In addition to the cocaine, detectives also seized $13,800 in cash, four automobiles and one boat, Smith said.

Smith said Medina's bond was set at $750,000, while Hernandez's was set at $300,000.

More arrests are possible as this investigation continues, detectives said.
