Is there a difference between the kind of portabellas you buy at the local food lion and almond portabella? I have only been able to find ALMOND P. cultures.

I think what you're asking (???) is if an almond portabella culture is what you need to grow the portabellas you find at the grocery store? If so, nope.

You'll want an agaricus brunnescens/bisporus cutlure. Bear in mind that portabella's are really just overly large fruit of this species.

If you're really interested in cultviating them, i.e. not just a one-time experiment, then you'll probably also want to also do some strain selection too.....growing out a strain that develops nice large fruitbodies.

It may look like a button mushroom right now, but wait until you see how it grows!

I got what the 1st guy was talkin about, the agaricus blazeii and I did a search for the pictures, athey look like they're whitish grey, and don't look as large as grocery portabellas. The grocery portabella's are brownish tan.
