The effect of drugs on pain or death

Ok I need to clear something up for myself. Every so often I hear that people while on drugs can be subjected to injuries that would kill a normal person, yet do not die. I have also read that Dr Death (was it Himmler?) from Hitlers staff experimented with drugs that allow people to ignore gunshot wounds, broken bones, etc. Sounds a bit sceptical to me.
Can anyone shed any truth or stories backed up with evidence on the subject?

The only thing I can say for certain is that people who are drunk in car accidents have a higher chance of survival because their muscles are relaxed (cuz they're drunk) vs. people who are sober and are all tense

A gunshot is a gunshot, a broken bone is a broken bone. Sober or not. People can definitely ignore the pain while on drugs and keep pushing, but to say that there is resistance to injury or death probably is wrong. If you were shot in the chest while tripping, you're going to have a a gunshot wound when you sober up. And it'll probably suck.. hah

Actually, depressants can help because if you're all smacked out, for instance, your heart rate will be slower and can keep you from bleeding out.
Oh, and the only Dr. Death I can think of is Dr. Joseph Mengela, the Angel of Death, who did experiments on people in the concentration camps to see how far the human body can be pushed before it gives up.

People given morphine can ignore the pain and go on.

Yeah, Dr. Josef Mengele. That's him.
I also hear quite often of people who are on E or PCP getting into fights, and fighting to the death due to not being able to tell when their body is on the brink of breaking down.
Interesting stuff. Would be interesting to read some of Dr. Death's research, if not a little creepy.

Ever fight with a huge dude on PCP? You won't win unless you SERIOUSLY know what your doing.
PCP literally makes you a superhuman. You ignore your strength limits and push your muscles FARTHER than they should ever go. (also, lack of pain)
That's why it takes like 5 cops to get a guy on PCP down, he's VERY strong at the time but yes, it has consequences. Your muscles contract a lot and
can be damaged pretty badly. But he isn't THAT much stronger, it just seems like it because he can ignore pain and just keep raging on them coppers.
Now, whether or not he can survive something fatal, well, probably not.
PCP and a few other drugs come to mind for me, but mainly PCP.
