Man jailed over 81,292 ecstasy pills

A man who posted 81,000 ecstasy pills from England to Australia has been jailed for 10 years.
David John Dehghani, 43, was arrested during a police sting in February 2007 after he was caught collecting packages from a friend's home at Redbank, west of Brisbane.
The boxes of drugs had been seized days earlier by customs officers at Brisbane International Airport's mail handling centre, the Supreme Court in Brisbane was told on Friday.
They were found to contain 81,292 ecstasy tablets, with a pure weight of just over 5kg.
The parcels were passed on to police, who sent an undercover officer to the Redbank home to make the delivery.
A surveillance device secreted in the package recorded the woman who received the packages phoning Dehghani to say they had arrived.
The court was told Dehghani was stopped by police 20 minutes after collecting the drugs.
He was arrested and pleaded guilty to one count of importing a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs.
The court was told he had mailed the drugs to Australia while holidaying in the United Kingdom.
Justice Debbie Mullins accepted Dehghani did not own the drugs but was instead acting as a courier.
Dehghani also pleaded guilty on Friday to two counts of structuring transactions so as to avoid reporting conditions and one of dealing in proceeds of crime.
The court was told these charges related to Dehghani laundering almost $1 million for associates in the UK.
Justice Mullins sentenced Dehghani to 10 years and 10 months' jail, with a non-parole period of six-and-a-half years.
He has already served almost 900 days in custody.

Just about every package going into Australia gets searched, I am not sure how he thought he would get away with this. Even thick letters get searched, they have the worst customs in the world.

I was just about to comment on this very same thing as well. NOT a good idea to ship anything into AUS via the postal system, it's no joke that nearly everything gets checked. Borrow your Uncle's speed boat if you need to transport quantity

In my state its one felony charge per ecstasy pill. That guy would be extremely fucked if it happened here.
