It's a smaller city than your other major cities along the western side of the cascades, but it is the biggest thing around in most of eastern Oregon. It's an outdoorsmen's dream location.... access to amazing lakes, mountains, national forests, and more. Pick an activity, spring, summer, fall, or winter and Bend can probably accommodate. We vacatiioned out near bend last summer and had an absolute blast. Living there year-round would be amazing, IMO. We camped inside a gigantic volcano and climbed a few mountains :-) Fucking epic.
I was all about moving to Bend a few years ago, but then my wife found an opportunity in Hawaii -- and that was a no-brainer.

Right now is an awkward time for Hawaii. So much of our economy has been based on 1) Tourism and 2) Home construction/sales that things are tough all over for lots of people and business, big and small. A few years ago you would have had no problem moving out here and securing steady work. Now, I think it's kind of iffy. And the costs of everything out here and rising.
I work for a small family run tour company, and as my boss always kept his business a little smaller than the competition, these lean times aren't so bad for him. Then 8 full time tour guides & drivers he employs are getting plenty work now. But that will probably dry up in October, after the busy summer season ends. My wife used to have a sweet corporate job, which paid most of our expenses. But she was let go last month and now we aren't sure just what the fuck we are going to be doing in six months. Moving to a different island (from Maui to Oahu) is very likely, as there are a lot more "professional" types of employment opportunities over there, and we are both mainland college grads.
edit: there are jobs, sure.... but LOTS and LOTS of applicants.

North of L.A. is nice ,the closer you get santa barbra the better the weather is,after all santa barbra has the most stable climate in north america.....
A year round average of 70 is not bad.....plus it`s not as congested as the city,but still plenty close to find work there.I would stay between redondo and santa barbra as a starting point.
Ventura is pretty vagabond friendly,they all seem to come here from up north in the winter and from down south in the summer..veniece is transient friendly too ,just get a space and make a sand sculpture then charge tourists a dollar to take pictures of it,you could also paint your self silver and dance like a robot for money ,but someone is already doing that,maybe juggle bongs and stand on yer head for tips......seems like anything will almost work in veniece.

huntington beach is good weather, kind of expensive, especially if youre coming in looking for low end work, not really sure what your trades are though.
beyond that the nicest places in california I know from experience are
San Diego
Parts of orange county - HB, fountain valley, westminster even(little cheaper)
San Louis Obispo - awesome city, near college, very lax
san francisco
