My own personal belief is that I like how the moderators here are liberal. I have been on other forums (non drug-related) where the moderators were a bunch of ignorant, power-drunk fascists who would ban you because they didn't like you or what you said.
There is no way to verify if these threads are real or not, and my honest opinion is: who cares? If someone can make up a great story that entertains people, who cares if it is real? They could create a separate forum for fictional stories, but then how many people would read them? No one. If people knew the 5AM girlfriend thread was made up, they would never have bothered with it. What makes these threads interesting is the tantalizing thought that they might be real. And it is a challenge for the trolls to come up with stories that are plausible.
The suicide thread was different because that is too serious a subject to be taken lightly. Also the way the guy did it was particularly malicious to the other members. He posted saying he was going to kill himself, a bunch of people replied saying that he should do it, and he posted back as the "little brother" who found his deceased big brother's computer on, and ranted at all the people who told him to do it claiming they were responsible for his big brother's death. This kind of thing is way out of line - it is not an all-in-good-fun troll thread but a vicious and dishonest attack on other members, who have no way of knowing if they were indeed responsible for someone's death.
But as for the regular troll threads in SA, I say as long as nobody gets hurt and everyone has a good time, where's the harm?
