Cops are out of control. Thanks goodness she was not at home or she could have ended up in the hospital or the morgue. If only cops would use as much energy going after criminals ...
Woman Claims Drug Task Force Ransacked Her Home June 3, 2009 - wapt.com
JACKSON, Miss. -- A Jackson resident said she came home Tuesday night to find drug enforcement officers ransacking her home.
“They even opened my salt -- like I had drugs in there,” Delilah Riley said.
Riley said the officers found nothing and now she's left with a mess.
The officers were with the narcotics division of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, according to Col. Edd Swinney, the Hinds County undersheriff.
“The information came from a confidential informer who has been real reliable in the past,” Swinney said.
After getting a search warrant, the officers searched Riley’s Marion Dunbar Street home, looking specifically for crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, Swinney said.
“My child was asking me why they tore our house up like this, and I couldn't tell him, because I didn't know what to tell him. All I could tell him was they are the police, but they don't have a right to do this,” Riley said.
Riley said the officers used a crow bar to break the lock on her front door, then they tore up her kitchen, living room, and other rooms in the house.
“This is my baby's stuff (they) destroyed. This is his room (they) messed up,” Riley said.
Riley said the officers also broke picture frames and left chips in her aquarium.
Riley told 16 WAPT’s Kathryn Kight that there was no reason for the raid on her home.
“The man said he had a tip. A tip made (them) come in here and tear my house up like this? I don't know anything about selling drugs,” Riley said.
Kight spoke with the head of the narcotics division. He couldn't go on camera and didn’t want his name to be used because he does undercover work. He said that the mess left behind at Riley’s home wasn’t extreme and said the department isn't responsible for cleaning it up.
“When we have information about a drug house, we go in and we look,” he said. “We don't go in there just to tear up a house looking for something. The stuff we pour out and what have you -- no we don't clean it up.”

That shit needs to change ASAP. Not just no-knock raids and so on but the "Pfft, not my mess, not my problem" attitude.

Seriously. If the cops were held responsible for cleaning the mess they make, and repairing damages they cause, when they search a house and turn up nothing, you could bet that the would be a lot more selective when choosing which tips to follow up on and which homes to raid. Either that, or here would be a dramatic increase in planted evidence.

You can sue for damages, civil suit, burden of evidence is entirely yours.
A police misconduct suit ... might work, probably not.
