Hi everyone,
This thread will be about my first growing of edibles. After my success with Golden teacher: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10039668, I’ve decided to try Lion’s mane, Golden Oyster and Blue Oyster. I ordered on SporeWorks 3 three pound supplemented sawdust block with rye grain pocketgrow kit (http://sporeworks.com/store/catalog/Three-Pound-Supplemented-Sawdust-Block-w-Rye-Grain-Pocket-Gour-p-16357.html). These were inoculated April 24, 2009. To inoculate the bags, I’ve used 5cc of liquid culture (half of the syringe). The other half was used to inoculate 500 ml jars of cracked corn (and 1 homemade liquid culture jar for Blue Oyster). Also, 3 Potato Dextrose Agar were used to make a backup of the culture (just in case).

May 1, 2009: I’ve build an incubator with 2 plastic tubs (one inside the other), the one at the bottom filled with water and an aquarium heater sealed with silicon. Temperature inside is 25oC. Put the jars in (it’s so slow at room temperature…) with the LC and PDA.
May 3, 2009: Now they’re growing fast! Especially Blue Oyster, it’s a badass mofo. In the bags, I see mycelium starting to show it’s face with Blue Oyster and Lion’s mane. No sign of mycelium in the bag with Golden Oyster.
The Setup:

Lion's mane:

Blue Oyster:

Golden Oyster:

The bags:

(Blue Oyster):

My PDA with blue oyster growing like crazy:

May 05: The temperature is stable inside the tub, 25oC. The mycelium is growing well on my agar plate (PDA). Blue Oyster have completely colonised the plate (and eaten contaminations!). There were a few contaminations, but that’s because these were old PDA (a mycologist at my workplace gave them to me because they were old, in exchange of a sample of each one of my species. He even gave me a Morel culture on agar plate to play with it and experiment).
From left to right: Blue Oyster, Yellow Oyster and Lion’s mane.

Yellow Oyster Mycelium:

A contamination:

The bags:

Yellow Oyster cracked corn jar:

Blue Oyster cracked corn jar:

And my liquid culture, with over 1 inch of pure mycelium. In the lab where I work we are cultivating Fusarium graminarum (wheat’s pathogen) in liquid culture, and with all the chemical elements we add in the liquid culture we always add some oats (for the proteins). I didn’t have any nature oats (only maple syrup flavour, probably not a good idea), so I used couscous instead. You can judge the utility of this method by the results.

May 11: I've mixed the grain in my bags. The jars are now fully colonised.

Yellow oyster:

Hericium:

Blue oyster:

May 25: The bags are now fully colonised. I open the bags an expose them to fresh air and light (in an aquarium with 90% humidity). Lion's mane has already started to produce some mushroom. For the yellow oyster, some "stuff" is growing on top (future mushroom? can someone confirm?), and blue oyster is all fluffy.

Yellow Oyster (and the yellow stuff):

Blue Oyster:

And Lion's mane and its future mushrooms!

May 28:
Yellow Oyster:

Blue Oyster:

Hericium:

May 31: So I've got a few questions guys. I'm worrying about the blue anb the yellow oyster. It looks like they're not growing (especially the blue oyster, the yellow oyster has developped some "cancer" stuff, but it doesn't look like it's going to become mushroom). So, too much CO2 in the aquarium (I vent them once a day)? Hericium is doing good.
Hericium:

Yellow Oyster:

Well, I'm both lol (french canadian). Why do you ask? (probably because of what's written on my jars eh?).
For the couscous, I think it'll go in easily (after weeks soaking in water and having being boiled, it shouldn't be very consistent anymore).
