He said "do anything" not "repeal the law".
This isn't difficult. He is against attempts to change the law- its his fault.

Of course you could expect the cops to fire back. But a 77 year old man without his hearing aid or glasses comes into the room and sees his kid and wife in trouble the first thing I would do is start shooting.
