Ombient said: But I think if you can talk about LSD in this forum you should probably be able to make a thread about 2CB for example.
Anything that has obvious reported PSYCHEDELIC effects, seems like it'd make sense to talk about in the PSYCHEDELIC forum, no? Especially PEA & Tryptamine based stuff that are so closely related to the substances which are the main scope of the forum. Go figure though.
The major safety issue here is dosage. The dose-response curves of many of Shulgin's RCs (expecially the psychedelic phenethylamines and amphetamines) are very steep, and also can vary drastically from person to person. Especially with the thio- compounds, a dose that's completely underwhelming for one person may be strong enough for someone else to put them in a prolonged catatonic state (Shulgin related such an occurance among his research group in PiHKAL).

Having these discussions occur in ODD ensures that anyone with access to the forum has been around long enough that they (should) know to take any unsourced information with a grain of salt. This is an entirely reasonable safety precaution.
If you want to read about these other drugs without having been registered for a certain amount of time, there are other message boards that provide such discussion (bluelight, for example). But this way dangerous misinformation isn't getting into the hands/minds of noobs because they read it on the shroomery.
I can understand where such a precaution is both reasonable and responsible. Otherwise the burden would rest on the mods to correct all dangerous misinformation, which doesn't seem fair (as the mods can't be expected to be up-to-date experts on every psychedelic under the sun). That's a big reason behind this policy, according to Cervantes.
I suppose you have a point, if only to relieve the Shroomery of any responsibility should any legal shit go down.
In an ideal world without lawsuits, though, I would still call for any substance with a psychedelic effect to be discussed in TPE. A mere 50 posts does not immediately imply the maturity required to take unsourced information with a grain of salt in my opinion.

Had the same question. At first upon reading this thread I thought it was all because the Ripper fallout. But I guess the site admin has a good reason as a kind of first line of defense against liability and bad press.
