thanks! interesting idea... it's the first i've heard of it! but then again i've only been reading these forums for 5 months, so who knows!
so what happens to the coir after pc-ing? does it kind of act like a sponge and soak up any standing water?

Hey protest, Your jars look like you knocked them up with mycelium water. Otherwise they loook healthy at last pic. Don't give up too soon. Forget about them for awhile. Shake to mix up the myc. Then walk away for 5 days. (if you can). as long as there is no chance they will contaminate your future. Fuck it, leave 'em be. You may be wonderfully surprized......

intlslacker said: I don't know if anyone else already wrote about this, but to avoid bursting grains and wbs, i soak overnight then drain and rinse, then before putting them back in jars, I add about 3/4" to 1" of slightly dry hydrated coir in the bottom, then fill jars with about 1" of headroom with the wbs/grain, then pc. I don't simmer, and the coir in the bottom ensures there's not too much water in the spawn. Then I close up the jars (I always use tyvek for filter disc), foil them up and pc for 75 minutes. I'm assured no burst grains and a perfect water content.
I've read quite a few posts from people who use a layer of dry vermiculite at the bottom of their WBS jars. Similar idea. It's supposed to work very well. I was going to try it on yesterday's jars, but forgot to put it in.
