10lb of Compost
    #10322389 - 05/11/09 12:58 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Im going to be spawning WBS to compost... I never bought it before. Only spawned to coir.

Is it going to make that much of a difference? Also is a 10lb bag enough for a monotub thats 19x13x4?

If its not enough I am going to mix it with coir. Does that work out alright?

you absolutely need to be sure you have excellent aeration in your mix. no matter what you use. some substrate components will either lump together (like dirt, grain, or some store bought "composted" cow manure like i buy )or have too few micro air pockets for good gas exchange when colonizing. that is one good reason to add equal parts vermiculite in your mix, not just for extra water holding capacity, which is needed during growth and maturation to fruits.

10 lbs s/b enough when mixed with your other ingredients like peat and verm plus your gypsum. you defnitely want an airy suibstrate when brought to field capacity.

It's really hard to judge an amount of compost by weight. Weight varies a LOT depending on your moisture content. I think volume is a much better indication of how much you are dealing with.
