pressure cooker question

i have read that when using a pressure cooker to steralize pf jars...it must be set to 15 psi.
the pressure cooker that i have access to surprisingly doesn't have a dial that shows the psi. theres just a little metal thing that goes on the top and it jiggles when boiling. can i still use this to steralize?

Not an expert at this but it sounds like the same kind I have and it has worked just fine. When the metal rocker on top is rocking that is when it has reached 15 PSI or at least that is how mine works. Consult your manual that came with it.

Whe n doing PF style, no need to PC.
That weight though is what sets the pressure. The heavier the weight the higher the pressure. You shouldn't surpass your PC's limit, But you easily can if you want, just add more weight to the rocker on top.
If you have a PC, get grains. I just had a QUART jar colonize in 3 days!!!
I would say dont even put the weight on it, just let them boil at normal boiling temperature. I never had a problem with PFs being sterile.
Seriously though, Rye grain is like 4 bucks at a feed store and it's so simple. If you have the PC it'd be silly not to.
i had 11 out of 12 rye quart jars be almost done colonizing bye ten days. And it took 5 days to germinate the Myc. from multispore.
Check up liquid cultures and Rye and casings.

I have a PC that only gets to 8 PSI! I just PC my WBS jars for 2 hours instead of 1.
I made a print myself from some wild shrooms I picked and that caused contam in all my jars but the print I ordered from spores101 has had 100% success.
My last batch of jars I also did while I had a cold and so far no sign of contam after a G2G.
Try to find the PSI then add time as required.

Thats the problem with wilds mushrooms, there covered in contaminants. Its best to work them on agar to get away from the contaminants then use the clean culture to inoculate substrate.
15 psi is recomended, but lower works fine, you just have to cook longer.
at 15 psi pf tek 60 minutes, grian 90 minutes at 10 psi pf tek 90 minutes, grain 2 hours.
try looking at the weight, its sometimes etched on the weight what pressure it works at. The pressure cooker i had was a prestige tall dome and it could do 5, 10, 15. The weight was in 3 parts and screwed together.
cheap small pressure cookers dont always operate at 15 psi. A few of the tower pressure cookers i have seen (uk) only go to 11.5 psi

Please check the dates of posts you are talking information from, im getting tired of constantly correcting people posting old outdated information and UTFSE
